Ive just swopped from a TDi Golf to a TSI Scirocco, which on paper have the same performance, in real terms though the torque of the petrol is very much lacking and you need to change down a couple of cogs and drive it hard, personally I prefer the way the oilburner pulls like a train from 1500rpm in 6th  although £30 buys me about the same kinda mileage.

Remember that (gear for gear) the diesel will be higher geared, so the effective torque at the wheels will be less. Perhaps we should settle this once and for all and arrange a 1/4 mile shoot out at the National?

The 14 would kill the 19D Tim, honest! Just got keep it revving and it'll shift.

I totally agree, I will happily offer up my non tuned 77k mile 14 StTropez up for a quick 1/4 mile against a 19D. It will murder it, honestly. Ive owned both.

And as for head gasket, on a 14? About 25 quids worth of parts and 3 hours :D :D

I've just got the GS back on the road - despite the weight penalty, smaller engine & 1 less gear, I recon it'll give a 14 a run for it's money. As it's an estate, It'd be interesting to see how it compares to an n/a diesel Estate too   .
