Its off to the crusher soon so anyone wanting parts please drop me a message. Up and running and at the moment can be heard so.Pumps up and drives. Been sat in an orchard/garden about 8 years after failing its test on rot so its well beyond saving. Im going to take the removable panels off. Interior is wrecked but may yield useful bits and bobs.
Richard.
I'd be interested in the sunroof if it's not all rusty inside (the metal lip visible under the glass if you're sitting in the car) and also the octopus if it's usable. I'm guessing there's no plip
I'm sure you'll grab lots of useful bits anyway - it's not like you won't find them a home

Tg spec didnt get remote locking as far as i know. Amazingly its LHM "tight" even after sitting on its belly on grass all this time.Your more than welcome to inspect octopus Ray if your passing.I shall look at sunroof next time im up.Probably this afternoon or in the morning for you.

I'm with way2go on that point Ray, just don't take the risk, imagine once its fitted & it goes again shortly afterwards, you'd probably then just scrap the car, far better to get a brand new one fitted.

Quite agreed guys, But considering my last "new in packet" one failed instantaneously, I want to get a working setup with an old or even bodged octopus first, then do a pipe-for-pipe substitution with a new one. Make sense?

Sorry if it seemed I was inferring any blame on your part - I've no reason to suppose anything was wrong with the octopus you sold me.
It does however encourage me to try a used octopus first to see if I can get to the bottom of whatever the problem is without another new one dying - finances are somewhat terrible at the moment

I think that you are still missing the point though Ray, that the octopus is not (naturally) under pressure. The car can be tested without it, hardly any LHM should come out of orifices when suspension is going up or level. It will normally shed LHM when going down though so catcher pans and newspaper is advisable!
Ray, sunroof looks good from underneath but couldnt get it to open this evening. I ran out of time and daylight but your more than welcome to come over and have a play with it.
Richard.

Have you checked for abnornal strut leakage yet?
Well the problem is that we've been unable to recreate the scenario with p!ssing LHM or any pressure. The struts returns don't give anything more than a few drops a minute, yet something somehow necessitated someone putting a jubilee clip on the old octopus, and destroyed a brand new one. Given not all the pipes were connected when we started looking (perhaps these blew off when the car sunk after turning it off when we got it home from Richard's), and pipes have been cut/bodged, it's not easy to know if everything is/was connected correctly. We tried to follow what was there, but it seems that starting from scratch would be the best way, and that's the next cause of action. If I can do it without buying a new octopus, so much the better. Once it's proven to be working fine, we'll do a pipe-for-pipe swap with a new one.
There's a ball bearing in one of the pipes at the LHM tank IIRC - could a missing/stuck/mislocated ball bearing cause it somehow? We're really shooting in the dark....

Good news.

Bad news. Still, my actual mechanism is fine, it's just the metal frame that the glass is attached to that's rusty on mine. Someone didn't clear the drains it seems...

Now there's an offer you don't get every day!
Thanks Richard, I'll try to get it organised before Wetherby if I can.
