as Ken says but also because you will crack/damage the underbody protection,
which will start/allow tin worm in,
MIND YOU SUPPORT THE CAR PROPERLY BEFORE YOU VENTURE UNDER THE REAR AS HYDRAULIC CITROENS CAN AND HAVE KILLED,

Thanks KN, I'll give Malcolm a ring again before I leave for my first job, hopefully I'll catch him before he P+Ps the bearing kits. I only did the above bodge after I'd spoken to him, I didn't know my pipes were in such a state!
I was quite careful when I placed my wood under the chassis.
That sounds dirty... I mean... there's a nice chunky piece just behind
the sub-frame mounts. Also, I used a soft wood (section of pallet wood) between the block and the chassis rails. Rest assured, no damage done. The floor is remarkably sound and original for a 20-odd year old car, and I'd like to keep it that way.

even if the tin work is sound i still dont like supporting a car on the bodywork,
because the underbody protection is like a rubberised skinn, and just the weight of the car can break/damage it,

OK, noted. I'll be even more careful, and support it on the subframe or mounts.
The parts came really quick from Malcolm, and I'm off outside to have a look at the job, instructions and diagrams in hand.
If it looks too daunting, I'll be sending the it for someone else to swear at it!
It looks like I may also have a battery charging problem
