Headlamps were moved from the radiator grille (lowlight) to the wings in '52 and the split screen was replaced with the single curved glass screen in '57. 1947 - 1950 models had the 918cc side valve engine designed in the 1930s - not sure when the OHV was introduced.
Originally designed by Issigonis as a direct competitor to the beetle, his design called for a flat 4 engine but this would be a new design and he was overridden and the engine from the original sit-up-and-beg Morris Minor was used because it was immediately available.
That's why there's lots of space in the engine bay - enough to get your legs either side of the engine while sitting on the radiator - perfect position for re-grinding the valves - good in Winter too because you're under the bonnet and you only get a little bit of snow on your back
