I've replaced mine with some bike brake cable outer with little slices in along the length.

Pretty rubbish to be frank!

5mm Air bleed pipe off any car you can find it on in a breakers yard works fine. It bends easy and its no problem putting the holes in.

Well, yes, to retain some kind of pressure beforehand, but try making small holes in brake cable outer! :D

It's a temporary bodge, MOT man liked it.

That's the kind of effect. Although at anything over about 60mph you just get a very clean roof.

Would aquarium air pipe work instead? Its flexible & should be soft enough to make small holes in.

Sounds plausible. Would be rubbish for brake cable though.

Nah, why do that when you can bodge a 'solution' instead?

We always seem to assume parts are no longer available (myself included!) but has anybody checked to see whether you can get this any more? Sometimes bits are cheaper than you think! I remember a guy on a VW forum I frequent proudly saying how he'd got a blacksmith to make him a rod for part of the handbrake mechanism for 'only' £20. I pointed out that I'd simply phoned up the dealer, who had 7 in stock and only wanted £8 including next day delivery... :)
