Not such a bargain after all:(

Post by crb »

Oh well my £510 ebay bargain failed its MOT on 1 or 2 minor things :(

1. Exhaust has a major leak of gases

2. Nearside rear radius arm has excessive play in a pin/bush

3. Nearside rear (sill end) body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mounting

4. Nearside rear (wheel arch) body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mounting

5. Nearside rear (door step) body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mounting

6. Nearside front (wheel arch) body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mounting

7. Offside front fluid suspension pipe leaking

8. Nearside front brake hose excessively deteriorated

9. Offside front brake hose excessively deteriorated

10. Offside front constant velocity joint gaiter insecure to the extent that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt

11. Nearside front track rod end ball joint dust cover excessively damaged so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt

12. Nearside front position lights not working

13. Offside front position lights not working

Advisories:

14. Nearside front fluid suspension unit partially deflated

15. Offside front fluid suspension unit partially deflated

Never mind I'll just have to do some overtime to pay back the credit card as I need the car for our lads trip to Barcelona and Munich beer festival later this year.

I've still got a list of minor things to sort out as well - I said I had come back to BX's for the challenge  TBH I new about the rust and exhaust and was expecting a much bigger list, so on the whole I'm pleased. Although having said that I cannot understand how it got through last year's MOT with the rust it had as there is no way it developed in the last 12 months, but c'est la vie.

But apart from that all good?

Remind me, does yours have ABS? If so you need to watch out as the front brake hoses are unique to the ABS models and some pattern hose manufacturers don't seem to realise this...

dodgy mot's are becoming far to common, Kens old cars inner wing should have been a failure point but it got through its mot before he took it in px. Might be worth informing vosa , they may come out and check the car and then take action against the garage that passed it.
Also my front nearside strut has apparently failed within a month of passing its mot

Crikey, did you take it to Kwik Fit? Try a council MOT centre if you haven't already - I use Warwickshire CC in Coleshill and not only are they weirdly cheaper for servicing and MOTs than the high street, but are friendly and have no financial incentive to knob on you. You turn up and they're full of bin lorries and police cars.

Mat - no abs on mine, I was reminded of this today down a country lane and some kind soul heading towards me at full pelt

Mick - I don't think I have any photos to help prove the case, I've only had the car since December and put it in for its MOT a month early, so really it has only been 11 since passing last year.

The garage that serviced the car also did the MOTs and for 3 years on the trot it failed on 'indicator lights affecting other lamps' and 3 times they 'fixed' it. They were still twinkling away when I got the car and it had been 'serviced' by them in October. The first thing I did to the car was check the rear earths and clean the contacts and it has been fine, so goodness knows what they did for their £70 a go!

Willy I take my cars to our local citroen specialist and have done for the last 12 years - he knows how I like to keep my cars. He doesn't do the MOTs so there is the independance between the garages.
