St Tropez 14TE - Another new owner.
Well its here at last, done about 100 miles in it since saturday. All in all a very nice car, drives spot on, for a 20 yr old cit its truly surprising.
it is, fookin' WHITE though!!!!!!
See,
so far i love it, its so simple and easy as its got nothing, no big engine, no PAS, lots of space around everything.
Only issue, front screenwash bottle empties itself overnight, swine. (traced fault to broken connector in pipe that someone had just wrapped gaffa tape around, FAIL, so i used an old bit of copper brake pipe to join it up, sorted

I promise i will look after old 'EV'
she will need some more metal in those front inner wings too at some point, had a bit of a poke about and identified a few 'to do' items but on the whole a very nice car that drives so much better than its age should let it really.

As you can see above, in February 2010, Matt promised me a drive in this car. I finally managed to take up the offer today!
We were on a 2CV run in Wales (saw a gold BX on the A5 in Shrewsbury though) and I must say, I was very impressed with the St Tropez.
The only BXs I've driven previously are either 1.9diesels or 16v petrols. It's been nice to finally try some middle ground! This is also the first time I've driven a BX that doesn't have PAS, or any electronic goodies such as central locking and electric windows.
I must say, I really rather enjoyed it. The induction noise is fantastic and this makes the BX 14 much closer in spirit to the 2CV than any other BX. It demands to be thrashed, but while it is susprisingly brisk, it's not licence-losing quick like a 16v on full chat. The steering seemed very nicely weighted, though it took a while to get used to the completely different feel.
Also nice to get a feel for what a BX should feel like given how iffy my Mk1 still is! Must get that wishbone changed...
Thanks Matt!

Nice pic Ian
It was a long overdue drive it has to be said. Its a sprightly little fella up to about 60mph.
320 miles yesterday and a rough calculation of 40mpg overall

The BX 14 makes more sense than the BX 16 IMO. The difference in speed is very slight, it's cheap to run, easier to work on and has more character.
I'd possibly even go as far as to say it makes more sense (to me) than many 1.9 petrols!

I reckon the 1.9 petrols are probably easier for long distance work. You really do have to work the 14 quite hard if you want to get a shift on, though it does pull fairly well from lower revs. Can't see much sense in the 16 though - more expensive tax and less mpg for not a lot more.
The 14 certainly isn't lacking in performance though.

Hah! Cracked how to post images from Flickr! A small victory for a dinosaur!
This thread seems like a good place to stick a pic or two of a St Tropez!
The first is one of myself and the St Tropez in the municipal car park in Mosset.
The Pyrenees Orientales, Abbaye de St Michael de Cuxa
Evening drive towards Mt Canigou above Taurinya
St Tropez, near Brive on the way home, but still managing to face South!

Superb. Wouldn't have looked out of place on the BXagon - we went fairly near (about 25kms from Mosset) and actually stayed near Limoux (Alaigne).
Please give us more about your trip - sounds pretty epic for an ageing BX - and the sort of thing I would like to see written up in my 'project' magazine (more of that later).

Ah Phil, yes I would love to do a BXagon, especially the 2012, but I am still a wage slave and I simply can't see any way of doing it without getting sacked, otherwise I'd have signed up last year. I can write up the trip, and there are a few more photos...
Inevitably, there's a little bit of this involved --->
