Gti fuel filler neck wanted

Post by 4B4 »

Has anyone got a fuel filler neck? Mine has succumbed to the tin worm.

Is that the longer one that goes to the rubber hose to the tank OR the little one that goes to the auxilliary tank?

It's the one that the filler cap lock bayonet fitting engages with. It sheared off when unlocking the cap.

There are 2 lengths of filler neck. 1 is used when there is no auxilliary tank (basic & diesel models). This longer one couples to a rubber pipe and then to the main tank.

And a different one on the cars with auxilliary tank (turbo and high spec cars). This shorter one connects directly to the auxilliary tank behind the rear qtr panel.

I suppose the easier question is: Do you have the additional fuel tank in the void between the rear inner & outer wing (below the filler flap)?

Although the parts that ^^ relates to only show the tank without auxilliary (and therefor only the "long" neck).

it's his locking "receptacle" that's fecked, happened to me and several other threads I've seen on here.

there are 3 screws that hold it in place and when it rots away the screws just hold the remnant

It should also be noted that there is a third option, for the 16v. It has a narrower intake so will only accept a petrol fuel hose, it has a separate part number. It was available to buy in 2004, when i bought one, fitted it, couldn't get a diesel fuel hose in and sold it, however it is no longer available in 2012 and i could rather do with it!

Thanks for the replies and the link. I presume it will have the additional tank. I will have a look tomorrow. If I can't source one I will make one out of stainless or carbon fibre.

Fnarrrrr...

As the actual bayonet is NLA, 4B4 was asking for a complete replacement neck i believe. Which is either 1 or 2 above (complete with the bayonet already attached) and dependant on whether he has the aux tank or not.

Which is exactly what was trying to be ascertained.

I'm after one too...

For the 'extra tank' version - but not urgent - and not before 4B4 has the bits he needs.

Me too! Someone has already bodged a repair and the filler cap is locking on a few strands of very rusty metal. I'd need the long one as the 14 has just the basic 40 litre tank.

I wonder if the C15 neck could be adapted?

1503 98 certainly looks like it might work.
