Thank you all very much for your advise and views and help on this matter.
I really don't want them to fully write it off as i think with some effort and not too much expense if second hand parts are sourced it could be rebuilt.
I would rather take less money for it and have the chance to save it.
Some may say we are mad but after having owned it for 7 years dad is reluctant to give up on it just yet, not only that it would give us a challenge
and possibly save a rare car.

I'd ask for it to be repaired back to what the car was pre-accident or they find a replacement car, show them how much French cars are (you probably won't find another UK Gti Hurricane anyway) & hopefully you'll get the settlement that you want & make sure you keep the car for either repair if they do write it off, or get it stripped for valuable parts when you get a replacement? Damn annoying, stupid drunk bitch :x

Damn - that's a mess - sorry to see that Gary.

That's a very good place to start...
Do agreed value insurances exist in the UK yet?

It's been available for ages but AFAIK only on classic car insurance - I have agreed value on the Granny.

Hurricane Is Dead

Post by bx petrol auto saloon »

Dear Gary.
Really really sorry about your Dads BX Gary, :( It looks to me that the
car will be repairable, with the use of s/hand panels etc. etc. But my only
concern would be if the roof has ANY dents no matter how slight, they
will write it off. They still most probably WILL write it off anyway. You may
have to have a 4 wheel alignment done first to see how bad it is :!:
Both of my cars are insured fully comp. on classic car policies with
AGREED VALUES, for social and pleasure only with limited mileage, with
NO COMMUTING. you may be wise to do this once the BX is repaired
hopefully
Good luck and I hope all goes well.
P.S. What ever you do DON,T let them take the car from you at all, or
you WILL be CHARGED STORAGE FEES at grossly over inflated rates.
ie;- £ 40 PER DAY. minimum.

Well can't really say much more but really gutted.
Oh dear Gary thats terrible

What a stuuuupid bitch driving whilst pi$$ed up !

Could she not used a fecking taxi or bus (@ 60 she should even qualify for a free bus pass) !

Well its definitely going to be an insurance write off, try settling for a minimum of least say £1k (inclusive of the keeping custody of the vehicle) with it being a Hurricane !

Reason being its unlikely that if you father finds a decent/replacement Hurricane so maybe a GTi/TZD would suffice (In Triton Green) then you could use some of the specific Hurricane parts for the new one (Especially the Seats) and Alloy Speed-lines !

If IIRC Paul's TZD Hurricane that got written off was not as badly damaged as your dads !

It was indeed a sad day - cruelly rear ended by a Vauxhall something or other at a Milton Keynes roundabout - ouch! I did give you some thought when the tragedy happened as I knew you were very keen on that car (so was I - and I'd only had it a month or so!). The good news is J821s engine and gearbox was dropped into J899 so all was not lost. Just returned from a bit of a fettling at Bourne Citroen and in very rude health . . .

Only just seen this, gutted to hear what's happened to your GTI Hurricane.

I know I'd loose my rag if someone ploughed into our Hurricane in similar circumstances, I had a bloke in a new ish car hit the back of our old Hurricane 3 or 4 years ago at a roundabout near Chorley.

Luckily our old one had a rusty old towbar on and it destroyed his front bumper as soon as he hit us and the damage to ours was minimal, most people who crash into a BX wont realise what they are/what they're worth.

What a disaster, if that happened to my Hurricane I'd be heart broken.
Lets hope it can get repaired.

I'm gutted myself looking at those pics and it wasn't even my car (though I do have a soft spot for Hurricanes!) Such a shame.
Please refer to my signature...

If it does get written off and ends up being broken*, I would be grateful if someone could let me know where it goes (again, please refer to signature! :( ).

The car was classed as a cat c, the pay out wasn't great but we managed to buy it back for £10.
The plan is to rebuild it but i have been a bit delayed by another project a Visa GTi , which is now mot'd and being used after a 7 year lay up.
I have started to collect some parts for the Hurricane for it's rebuild but i still need a o/s/r 1/4 panel ,has anyone got one tucked away they would like to sell.
It maybe awhile before she is up and running again but she is too rare to give up on.
