Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Right, who says there hasn't been a summer, look at this poor biro that got left on the dash!

Also what is this switch for? (Excuse the filth, I've been carrying mud!)

And I'm guessing the thing on the right is some kind of audio connector and the thing with the flap is some kind of power point, but what kinds? :D

In other news, went to my friendly and fairly local Citroen garage today for a chat on things that need doing. Upshot is he's having it on Friday to solve the knocking at the front (probably obvious and not even that difficult, but I have no time or decent off road space), and the humming noise from the nearside rear corner.

I wonder if this would all be better in the blog section? Hmmm.

The socket is a DIN 4165, better electrical connection than a cigarette lighter socket. I've just fitted a 4 way socket to a short length of cable with the DIN plug on the end.

Dunno what the switch is for; does anything happen when you press it or have you not dared yet?

I can move this to the blog section if you prefer...?

Yep, that would be my first line of enquiry in trying to work out what the switch is for! Be careful though; it could be the ejector seat!

That's a pretty awesome set up Mat! I see. Would these DIN plugs be available from Maplin and the like?

It doesn't seem to do anything, I think the little light comes on, which is pretty impressive, but not overly useful.

I need to figure out the best place to put a switch for the fog lights that will get wired up this year, but this doesn't
seem the most convenient.

Yeah, I reckon if you can move it to the blog section, cheers.

If i'm not mistaken that DIN plug is also referred to as a Hella plug. Just type Hella plug/socket into eBay. We have them in the trucks. You can also get them with a DIN/Hella plug at one end and two power outlet sockets at the other, to plug in phone chargers etc.

Seems like the DIN standard has now been superseded by ISO 4165 but you're right Mark, it goes by a lot of names!

I'm sure Maplin would sell it, but getting a knowledgeable member of staff to help you there seems more and more difficult these days! This bunch do a variety of plugs which can also be used in a lighter socket with the red collar fitted.

I find hose plugs cheapest at cpc.co.uk

The plugs fit the normal fag lighter socket, but you can remove the red spacer and then it fits the DIN socket.
Very useful connector these.

Most truck stops and m-way svcs sell these Hella/DIN plugs, but are probably 24v. Try halfords. I miss Tandy/Radio Shack. My dad was on their mailing list back in the '80s and I loved reading through the brochure. Police scanners, C.B. Radios, multi channer equalisers. Seemed so exotic to a 12 year old northern lad. :)

The plug itself should be any DC voltage, it's the item you attach it to that needs to be the correct voltage?
