Very super job, it's people like you that give the rest of us hope that there will still be BXs on the road in another 30 years, even less availability of parts and disgusterous UK winters/salted roads notwithstanding :)

Well it's people like my Dad really, as he's paying me to do it (or the majority of it). I'd love to do it for free for him, but I don't have anywhere near the amount of free time and if I did it free as a business we wouldn't last very long!

oooh good, an opportunity to bitchslap someone :D - don't be so modest Kitch! Don't matter how much money someone has if there isn't anyone around who has the skills to do the job - and that would be you, obviously :)

Ha! Well you can withdraw that bitchslap as I didn't fabricate all those metal parts either (We've got a very clever retired gent who does all that!) I just welded them in and took the thing apart!

I'll compromise and withdraw .... oh, let's say 30% - the putting together still counts for something

Is lead loading still allowed, or have the health and safety Nazis put paid to it all. Lovely craftsmanship BTW. :)

Wouldn't know how to do it even if it is allowed!

Think that's what concealed the horrors in my 16v's inner wings.

Doubt it would have actually been applied over the rot, as it only sticks to clean metal. It has the advantage it doesn't absorb moisture from the air like filler does, so can last longer. But it's a bugger to use - had a quick go and was rubbish at it - too cold and it didn't melt, a few seconds longer and it's a molten puddle on the floor :(

Been a while so thought the thread deserved a bump up (seeing as I've done nothing whatsoever with the grey 16v)

Windscreen pillars coming along:

Bodyshop is going to finish off the sanding down, as I can't quite get it right

Managed to set fire to the carpet while welding:

More fabbing:

Romantic blue doesn't half fade!:

Blast from the past......anyone remember Snoopy? (I think thats what he called it) It donated its doors just after being totalled by some moron IIRC:

Wings being prepped:

Started doing some last minute stuff on the body today and found a previous repair on the A-pillar which I always thought was ugly but solid turned out to be ugly and flimsy:

So we had to come up with something pretty quick sharp:

Innards (or what's left of them) caked in Kurust and new bits of tin welded in. Looks awful inside still, but that's luckily the only part that's solid (previous repairer has used 3mm plate!)

Made it go on fire again though:

More tomorrow!

More tinkering today. Nothing major, just last minute bits and bobs before it goes to the bodyshop:

The A-pillar is now a mix of old thick plate and new stuff we've put in. It's not ideal, but it's solid and from the outside at least it'll look good enough.
We've just got to weld the check-strap bracket back on now. It's a fairly tricky thing, because it's been butchered in the past and can't be refitted in the correct way. I've decided the only way to attach it and make it look good is do the prettiest weld I've ever done along the top of it and leave the grinder alone.

Hmmm......let's see how that one pans out! #-o

We've got a proper little retro corner going on now!
