These are the 6" which require the wider tyres and result in a loss of ride comfort though.

185/60's will fit fine (usually 195/60's are fitted to these), can't comment on the ride, but i suspect it isn't as soft as the narrower & higher profile original tyres, but much better grip though with these

I have 185s on mine (which are 6Js). The ride is definitely firmer, can't comment on the grip as I haven't driven my car in really appalling weather conditions as yet!

I have a Gti on 195s and one on 185s the grip is so much better on the 195s, on the 4x4 you can really make it corner hard, if it isnt hurting your neck youre not trying ride wise not much in it theyre both fairly firm

You really wouldn't notice any difference between these and 5.5J GTi alloys. I hardly noticed any difference between these and the standard steelies on the old estate.

You need to try harder Kitch My fronts are getting near to the wear indicators & i've noticed a bit more squeeling recently when cornering at speed I know its a txd, no powah, so i don't tend to slow down much, too much effort to get back upto speed

Are you saying you have 165 tyres on 6J rims?

If you haven't fitted these to your car yet there is only one word you need to remember... DON'T!

Those tyres are not wide enough for the rims.

Please for your own safety double check... there were other speedline rims which look exactly the same, but were 5½J, and only these are good to use with 165 tyres. On 6J rims, you need a minimum of 185 width.

I've just bought a set of Saxo vtr alloys which I think are 6J, and I've put a set of Uniroyal 185 60 14 rain expert tyres on them.
Too early to tell you about ride quality as the car is not yet on the road, but I'm looking forward to trying it out...

Are you saying you have 165 tyres on 6J rims?

What would happen if I fitted them ? As they came off an Athena.

165 profiles on a 6" rim? Not recommended AFAIK. Those tyres came off an Athena? They'll come off something else too

Hang on a sec chaps! Tizzy bought them off me, they came off the Athena and have the original tyres that Will had swapped from his steelies to them.

To say they are "Dangerous" is stupid, they are PERFECTLY fine and safe and they are NOT too narrow for the rims AT ALL! They are not Stretch-Fit or whatever the VW boys do theses days so do me a favour and stop scaremongering.

The minimum and maxumum tyre widths for a 6J rim are: 155mm to 215mm, although the accepted standard is 165mm to 205mm
