Not sure about nice...anyway, I got the sill section sorted this morning. Photos aren't much good, but you get the idea.

I gave it a quick coat of Zinga as I'm not sure when I'll be able to do more on it.

Very sunny here too for a change! Not much depth to it, and mostly gone by the afternoon. But enough for people to abandon their cars last night - we saw quite a few left by the sides of the road this morning!

Arse. Windscreen was OK yesterday, but this morning one of the chips had grown *slightly*.

Image

I reckon the heavy frost my have been a factor, and Lana did helpfully pour some warm water on it this morning as she had some left over after doing her car.

I don't think the water was the direct cause, as we've both used it to defrost windows with no problems for the last 15 years. But it had frozen again by the time I came to get in the car, so I wonder whether the warm water entered the small chip, froze and then cracked. There were two chips close to each other which the cracks have spread out from.

The only positive thing is that since June this year I decided to go for windscreen cover, so it's 'only' going to cost my £65 excess. This will be the 6th windscreen we've had replaced since 2006, although only one was caused by a stone chip whilst driving! The most bizarre failure was on Lana's old Megane, which spontaneously cracked when I was giving it a service - the only thing I can think happened was me removing the strut brace to change the spark plugs and then driving it onto a couple of rocks to get enough clearance to change the oil!

Tonight's job was to weld on the new wheel arch, which is now in and primed.

Image

Ironically I'm now at the stage I thought I was when I first started the job, with a patch required under the C pillar! At least there is good metal around it now to weld to.

Question is, should I remove the sill trim on the other side to see what lurks behind? Or maybe that can wait till next year...

Did you take your jeans off mid or post welding?

 I'm trying to think of a witty comment about the jeans, and failing. The (less exciting) truth is that they are there just to protect the rear seat from grinder sparks. Nearest I've got to naked welding is doing it topless - just to keep the tan topped up ;)

We went up to the Lake District for the weekend - spent a night camping by Wast Water:
That road only goes to a few houses, an outdoor shop, and a pub. I was 'up north' doing a software job for a company and had half a day spare - which I used driving around the Lake District including that road... and the pub. I tried the local brew - the sign on the pump looked hand painted - Burt's Beer or something like it. Amazing taste like nectar - until you took the glass from your mouth ! The aftertaste was very strange indeed.
I reckon the heavy frost my have been a factor, and Lana did helpfully pour some warm water on it this morning as she had some left over after doing her car.
That just looks unlucky - I've always used hot water from the tap which is 60°C max.

Back to BX related stuff now, although not a happy tale...I moved it the other night, in the dark, and failed to spot my sawbench

Fortunately the lamp unit was easily replaced:

However, the tailgate is slightly damaged - typical, 120k miles without an accident and as soon as I give it a rest from driving I prang it! It was really nice to get back into it and start it up; I'm missing it already :(
