I wire brushed the surface first, to remove any loose rust and also to ensure there was none lurking under the edges of the paint. They recommend to put cling film over it, to stop it drying out, in which case you could probably leave it longer to get to work. But I couldn't manage to cover it with cling film and still keep a good thick uniform layer of the gel.
So I would just agitate the semi solidified gel every day, applying a bit of new to keep a good 3-4 mm thickness. Each time a bit more shiny metal would be exposed.

As an aside, I'm using the Focus as a testbed for their underbody protection! I've sprayed a bit of Dynax UB on the sills, which were starting to go rusty. If they manage to slow down that rust (I didn't even bother wire brushing) then that'll be impressive.

Repairs are progressing slowly, the 'a' pillar is finished at last.

I've also completed a couple of repairs to the inner wing which i have since painted.
I'm de rusting the inside of the nsf wing arch at the moment hopefully i'll get it and the bumper refitted this weekend. That will complete the front end repairs, although i'm racking up a list of relatively minor things that need attention which i've noticed along the way.

The front end is now re-assembled, i have had the bumper painted too, i wasn't going to bother but it seemed a shame not to seeing as it was off.
Other jobs completed are:-
ns handbrake cable replaced
rear cam seal replaced
front breather pipe replaced
the only outstanding job on the front end is the steering lower coupling which i will do at a later date.

Nearly there now! The repairs to the nsr are now complete , just needs wire brushing again and then waxoyling and undersealing.

Proper job there Barry! I'm glad I've caught mine early, as I've got much less to do on mine.

Inspiring work! Well done.

Is this the Deox referred to earlier on?

That's the stuff Phil. I used the gel but apparently the liquid works faster but you need to be able to immerse the whole part (unless you have a container big enough for the entire shell!) I'm impressed so far with all their products TBH, although only time will tell on the rust preventative coatings...

Excellent neat bit of fabricating there Barry =D> =D> ;

Is this inner wing (top) patch area an estate related corrosion area as I've never seen a saloon rot here?

I don't know about saloons as all my bxs have been estates but it's a very common area to rot, i've repaired three of mine in this area over the years.
