Oh dear. Can't complain about that being broken up. Poor thing looks like it's been living in the sea! At least it's ideally placed to help other BXs live on. 16v Mk1 anyone? ;)

Well I was tinkering with the idea of a 16v estate, but realised that was just as much work as fixing this! It would also be worth less at the end, but then I'd never want to sell it anyway, leaving me with storage issues.

Mk1 16v........hmmm....I could....I've got the GT here.....no.....no....no!!

Wasn't the engine in the GT putting about about 3 bhp?

Alternatively, wouldn't it be easier for Tim to turn WTF into a sleeper Valver than install that Xant engine?

Yes unfortunately a no brainer, I went through this with my TGD Turbo last year, it had belonged to a friend who had owned it from new before passing it on to me. Mechanically he had cherished the car with no expense spared over the years but the shell unfortunately was very similar to this one in the end. I went right round the car one day poking and prodding to see exactly what was needed to get the car back on the road and had no choice but to come to the realistic conclusion the vehicle was terminally rotten and in an end of life state. The cars are simply not valuable enought to warrant the amount of work that would be needed to put it right and with the best will in the world with that amount of welding required the neatest welding would never be able to make it 100% right, there will always be some distortion and creasing of the original clean lines, suspensiom geometry etc.
Time for the car grave I think.

Yep, but the valver is a screamer, which is not what Tim wants.

It's a shame, but with it looking like it needs at least 1 sub frame dropping (possibly both once you get digging further), plus a lot of other stripping to get at everything properly, it's not rare or valuable enough to make it worth while doing as anything but a keeper.

At least with it looking so good on top and inside it should yield a lot of good parts for other cars out there.

I guess this is a stark reminder to all of us that rust protection is essential. The BX isn't bad for a car of that era, but that doesn't mean they don't rot! I need to give my TXD a right good going over.

Years ago they had a good reputation rust wise - when I bought my 1st one in around 2000, the only rust issue I was advised to check for was the cross member under the radiator, being told that unlike any earlier Citroens the only reason for rust anywhere else was accident damage!

This Summer Timex is coming off the road to get the rest of the structural work done, followed by filling up with oil, just like the GS will be filled before it hits the road this summer!

71bhp I believe. I want it over 100bhp again, but I don't think my Dad would go for the 16v lump!

Different kind of speed. I understand what Tim is trying to achieve - he wants a cruiser not a ragger, if that makes sense?

Plus it'd be a shitload easier to take a 16v (one that's not full of holes) and take the bodykit off of it

Quite agree, the GT is a lovely drive as is, very torquey and no so rare it would (imo) be sacrilidge.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

I don't think it's that so much....it might be rare but the engine's nothing special. I'd probably stick a D6C on twin carbs in a BX Sport.

It's more the type of driver my Dad is. He's no speed freak, and the 16v lump only wakes up at high revs. I'm going to check out the condition of the cam though, might put a slightly fruitier one in it from a 205 or something.

I did fit 2 brand new TD front ABS driveshafts at 50k miles so you can check the mileage to see how many they have done.

The one on the right looks chunky, but the one on the left looks pretty skinny. Plus that's the side the CV boot has let go on, and I know the joint is clicking away like no one's business.

Anyway, having chatted with the missus tonight (she's brilliant really.....she could have got all out of shape over this) I've decided to break the car for sure. I'll be keeping some parts from it (black carpet!!!!!!) as well as the air-con, which will go in BAH. there will be a few bits I'm going to stockpile - I'm not trying to be tight over it, but one of the deciding factors in breaking it was that it will benefit BAH's long-term future, and keeping some of the rarer spares was part of this thought process so I apologise in advance to anyone I shut down on the approach for something I'm planning to keep

I'll go through the car and make a list. Nothing will get wasted.....I'm even going to strip body panels and bodyshell sections (the ones that aren't rust) to keep for future use.

Didn't get shot down by anyone too! I was expecting an angry mob at the door!

It's that boxxed, i think everyone with a sensible head realised its spares now. If it wasn't, then you'd have probably been shot as it did always look great.
