/\ I agree Matt but rutter is also bothered about the structural integrity of the car, which, I think it's hard to say without looking at the work done in the structural areas, i.e. subframe mounts, A, B and C pillars, chassis rails and sills, plus your slam panel and bulkhead.

major welding work done about 5 yrs ago inc n/s and o/s rear end of sills and n/s inner sill axle mount area n/s rear chassis rail and bump stop, boot floor corner exhaust hanger, n/s and o/s front inner wing and wheel arches n/s/f a pillar n/s/f chassis/crossmember, all old metal cut away and new thicker plates made up, these repairs are still good to date with no signs of further corrosion, as for the rear pillar i have started to cut away the rust and have found that its not actually that bad after having a good look inside the pillar it seems the rust is quite localised in these spots and hasnt really caused any further significant damage, the worst of which is inside the wheelarch behind the rear light where the water has sat, i think if i can get some steel plates on the insides of the pillar i can weld them from the top and cut away the boot seal lip and replace this at the same time ( as this is hidden anyway under the boot seal )

Sounds like you've done a lot of work on this car already, seems a shame to stop if you can cut it out & weld in new metal & keep it on the road to enjoy :)

Agreed. I think 300k is the magic number. Infact, any BX that reaches 300k should get a telegram from the Queen! :D

Sounds like you've done a buttload already so it really would be a shame to stop now and the areas highlighted seem fairly localised, you haven't got entire panels crumbling to nothing.

done a bit this weekend repairing the rear pillar, cut away the rot which seemed to be mostly on the underside of the rear channel, cut and shaped a few pieces of steel and let them in, also done a few more repairs in and around the rear quarter, still some finishing to do, not an expert job but a noble effort, not really fussed about a perfect finish as the car aint no show winner..and now another shade of red to be added to the 50

all ending up something like this, still a bit more filling to do and then some paint.
