There 3 easy or readily available solutions.
1. Some Xantia ones are similar but have a metal hog ring closing the gap on the part that threads onto the spigot. They are all hidden though - used to keep wiring looms etc in place.
2. Partial success using a cable tie to again close the gap
3. Great success by screwing on an M6 (I think) nut onto the plastic part, again to close the gap.

Are these the Xantia ones that I could use?

Might try the nuts first though, I'm thinking perhaps M8?

M6 from Bandits post above, just over the plastic nut to close the gap.

None of those are what you need pogo. I'm thinking you're right with an M8....

The ones I have bought don't fit my car (estate) they aren't deep enough, I think they must be for a hatch, I tried them on my hatchback scrapper and they fit fine.

Here is a way to get those plastic nuts to grip again.

I cut some 12mm x 1.6mm aluminium tube into half a dozen 5mm long pieces, slipped onto the business end of the nuts then crimped slightly perpendicular to the split in the plastic. They grip very well and can be tightened properly.

No more rattly boot liner!

Only problem is the hardware store only sells 2.0 meter lengths and I only needed 30mm ! Maybe I will fix another 65 cars?

Ah, it's finally clicked what people were suggesting with the nuts after seeing Michael's pictures. Guess what I'll be doing tonight!

Did mine today, the 12mm tube didn't work quite as well, so ended up using a bit of chemical metal inside the thread which seemed to work well in the end.
I think it wants slightly smaller tubing than I had.
They certainly grip OK now

I just discovered today that i had used metal (steel in my case) tubing also and I crimped (or rather more crudely) squashed mine with mole grips to close the gap a tad. I only have 4 though so I have a few more to do (some for the valver)

Yes, squashed them, perhaps more care was needed?, worked ok though with a dap of epoxy stuff in the end.
