Tzd estate

Post by ruari »

Hi all,

My tzd estate has developed a hefty hydraulic leak (suspect octopus but haven't checked properly) and I don't have time to fix it myself or money to pay a mechanic. if anyone wants it for scrap value (250?) let me know, else it might be the end of the line for Bruce :( have got full service history, 169k miles. Pretty ratty but generally solid. Will add pictures soon, in central Reading.
really?

Kitch, its no where near that !

The last price I got was £125 a tonne (16/04/2013), the handbook states an DTR Turbo Estate weighs 1077 kg's (Should be the same as a TZD Estate) also 'Wards or Sim's' deduct £2.50 per tyre if still present on the vehicle so that's £10 or £12.50 (If you leave the spare in the vehicle) deducted from the the final sum !

Work it out for yourself

I know, that's the point I was making. I'm sure you don't mean to sound condescending!

My sums also allowed for the fact a chunk of a BX isn't metal too.

^^ That's the car, cheers for the photos! Posted on my phone before and it's just too much effort to link everything that way. Certainly £250 would be optimistic for scrap weight alone, but it's got £70 of diesel in it (stupid time to fill up!), and I know a scrapper that would offer £200 if nudged in the right direction.

Having had a moment of slightly less annoyed clarity, I'm having a crack at fixing it since a mate of mine very kindly offered to give a hand. Does look like it's coming from around the octopus (yay..) but the whole thing's pretty filthy so hard to pinpoint it. Might also be a smaller leak around the pump. Will decide shortly if I'm still selling it, cheers for the interest for now and I'll let you all know if it's still available soon.

If its is an octopus, Westroen in Chesterfield can fit them, they are £50 an hour last time i checked & will charge 3hrs for doing the job, so its not mega expensive in the scheme of things.

If it's leaking in the normal place between the octopus body and front height corrector you should be able to fix it fairly permanently with a short length of silicon hose and small bore plastic / metal pipe... Need a good light and long small fingers but very cheap fix if the rest of the octopus is in fairly good condition which it may well be. Just need to remove the offside wheel but driveshaft gives you much more room.

Fixed mine this was about 12 months ago, it's still leak free and I can save my genuine spare octopus for when it's all really degraded.

Looks too nice a car to scrap for the sake of an octopus! Like mildbunch said, it could be an easy fix, but if it's actually cracked/broken anywhere, then the chances are it's aged and will break again elsewhere.

The octopus is one large achillies heal imo and thought should be given to a redesign using compressed air piping and push fittings possibly.

The Xantia design is better - the 'octopus' is more like a rubber manifold no more than 12 inches long and fits on the lhm tank. All feeds to it are plastic piping.

Stupid question. Is it possible to fit a Xantia reserve and octopus to the BX? If not, why not?

This car is not to far from here. If it is a case of threats of death I would take it on for reasonable folding stuff. To good to bosh and I have under cover storage for it.
