With normal driving style, yes !

But I've had brake fade on several occasions in the past with the rapid TZD Turbo I once owned, where it felt I was going to go straight on when approaching sharp bends

If I had a pair of the SOLID grooved/drilled type like /\ fitted I'm sure this 'Strange' feeling would have been eliminated !

I think that's what he was tying to do, by applying the brakes

Upgrading from solid to vented discs made a big difference for me, as did the brand of pads. So far I've yet to experience fade with my current set-up.

I had Bendix discs/pads fitted all round before the challenge last yr. Can't complain about the stopping power and zero brake fade as well. Unlike Geoff in his ZX!!

Those drilled/grooved discs are just for cosmetics really. They're just standard discs with holes drilled and grooves cut. Only difference it'll make is to your wallet...especially when they crack and you have to replace them with standard ones again #-o

On proper track setups, yeah they're required. But on a BX? Well if a 16v driven hard doesn't need them, I don't think many will.

Been considering what to do with the ZX brakes in light of descending mountain roads ;) under normal conditions they're good. But under more demanding circumstances like Geoff experienced last year, I reckon Volcane ventilated front discs and appropriate calipers, with high quality pads will help. That, combined with quality flexible hoses and competition grade fluid in a properly set up system with good tyres should be ok. But just in case we'll probably duct cooling to the brakes too lol

Vented discs probably worth the effort but I'd just rob a set of the 247mm ATE types off a Saxo or 106. Or if it must be 266mm, a 306 HDi. Volcane gear will be harder to find.

Pads are pretty much pads....some squeal, some don't. Most are made in the same place anyway. Flexi hoses are all the same - if you want an upgrade there you need braided. DOT 4 fluid is fine for a ZX that isn't hammering around Knockhill.

Otherwise I'd try engine braking

Fine. :) I'm not overly concerned but good advice re discs... Some fluid will boil at higher reps apparently which can't be bad I guess. One thing though, diesels AFAIK don't really 'do' engine braking like a petrol?

If I were to fit Saxoid vented discs would a calipers change be necessary?
