Green tint lights?? mmmm.
Suspect you'll find the rear inner wings are shot along the top edge..
I think there will come a time soon when cars like this will be worth "flatpacking" and keeping evey usable panel. That said, drilling every spot weld on a BX takes a very very very long time.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

It's not gonna be long before no one will think twice about returning cars like this to the road!

I knew you'd point out the green tint lamps

I'm thinking of flat-packing this one to be honest. Mike's right....it won't be long before people will be restoring them in this condition, so you have to give serious thought to them right now.

Well I only had one spares car (and that wasn't my plan for it either). I bought this one because if I didn't it was going to be crushed, so no one would have got any spares!

I have to be realistic and do what is best, not what's nicest.

What about selling the concept of a full/part restoration for a certain price to see if there is any interest out there?

I've thought about that (in fact I've had an enquiry on it) but my concern is that I agree to sell the 'car' on for next to nothing, possibly along with an engine from G-SEG etc there by depleting my spares, and it could then still come to nothing through no fault of the buyer later along the line (change in circumstances etc) and the project ending up being scrapped anyway, only I lost out on all the spares.

If I knew it was going to be restored to a really high standard, I'd be inclined to move it on. Problem is I'll only ever have someone's word for it.

I also realise I'm being really arsey by poo-pooing pretty much every solution that comes my way! Right now I still think 'flat-packing it' as Doc put it is the best thing to do. I don't even think scrapping is the right term....I wouldn't aim to throw anything away.

If you did the engine resto from g-seg, sorted out the rust issues & made it mechanically sound forgetting the bodywork, how much would you need to sell it for in order to make a profit? Same again but the bodywork is also sorted? Hopefully your ideas of sale price will give prospective dreamers a reaility check & if anyone is remotely interested they'll be in touch.

Hmmmm....not sure. If I said the red shell was worth £150 (cos that's what I paid) and the engine/loom/gearbox etc (everything I could sell to a pugger) was £350......that's £500. For a rusty 16v shell, and an engine on the floor. People buy running cars for that, but that's what I could sell the stuff for.

If I put it all together, but left the bodywork as it is (I don't think any of it is an MoT failure so far) then it's my time more than anything that's gone into it. What it'd be worth running with an MoT....I'm not sure. It might not even be worth much more than the £500 above, but I'd certainly want more for it as I'd be pumping lots of time away from the family into it, and also giving up lots of spares to keep BAH going for as many years as I exist!

To get the paint sorted as well......that'd cost £600-£700 I reckon, so I'd need to sell that car for £2000 to make that all worthwhile. Would it be worth £2k fully sorted? Not really sure.

Having just read this thread........

Im giving no opinions on what you shoudl do with it, but i will say this.
That shell is not f**ked, far from it, if you can weld, its virtually mint.

Have you seen what gets saved and rebuilt in the Dyane, 2CV, CX, GS world these days? Now those cars are rotten!!!

I cant even see an argument for not saving this shell, its already nice and light for moving around and turning over etc

Having said all that it basically depends on time and money and Kitch is the only one who can decide if its worth saving for him.

I sold the 16TRS and 19DTR for about £2000 a piece and they are considerably less desireable than a 16v in red. At the end of the day Kitch its your car to do with as you wish, if you want to strip it for parts to keep BAH on the road for the future then that of course if your decision, if anyone can return it to the road then you can as you do have G SEG to provide the parts you need (unless I win the lottery tonight that is)

But are we talking cars to which people have sentimental attachments? Plus I would guess the supply/demand situation is the other way around for those cars? Either way, if you have the space I certainly wouldn't rush into a decision. Things may well change faster than we think.

Thats fine. Im not trying to preach.

What i am saying is that when only really bad shells are available (which wont be long coming in BX terms)
and which is already the case mostly with the models mentioned then people will be crying out for a shell as saveable as this one.

I wasnt trying to be inflamatory. Sorry if it came accross thus.
