If you've been running veg, have you checked the fuel filter? If thats fine you may want to check the tank filter, it may be gummed up & if it isn't any of those then it will probably be air getting into the system. I believe the primer bulb is a prime candidate?

Over the past week I nearly sold/scrapped the BX! Not to worry, I talked myself out of it when the practicalities of money and space and whatnot were considered. However, if I hadn't seen reason you'd've seen an end to this story and a replacement in the form of a Freight Rover Sherpa chassis-cab from Wales with no tax or MoT. I think I shall regret being unable to go for the Sherpa as it's an itch I'd like to scratch much like the BX is (no, really) but there may well be a Sherpa in my future when I've got a more stable situation.

In the meantime I've not done anything to the BX, in part due to the weather, but mainly because I've been enjoying tooling around in the Princess so much on my good days and battling with my continued headspace issues on my bad days. Doesn't leave any time for the BX, sadly. However, today I did shuffle Stripey around to find that almost all the grass under the car is DEAD, and while the brakes were stuck on a little bit they very quickly freed off. Suspension is still working, the lever continuing to get easier to operate, and the battery has stopped going flat after that slow charge I gave it. I'm still having trouble starting and I've not ventured into the filter to see if that's the issue yet. I've also noticed that when priming the pump (something I have to do now, even when it's warm) there's a sound of air escaping somewhere but I can't locate where. This noise is new, so I suspect a pipe somewhere has broken, I'm hoping it's not something expensive like a dead pump.

I know BXs aren't everyones cuppa, but a Sherpa??! I drove a convoy a few years back, and hand on heart that was the worst vehicle I've ever driven!

All change again! A little mk3 Fiesta in bright blue has come up for sale locally for about what I'd get scrapping the BX. On the surface of things, it'll need less work and while I'm not thrilled at the prospect of scrapping the BX I'm also not surprised if I end up being its last owner. I think what this means is if anyone wants to throw about £200 at me for Stripey as it stands - no tax, no MoT, collection only - then you can save it. I doubt anyone will, in all honesty.

Aaaand, I think we can safely say I'm flip-flopping about Stripey. I've decided that if the little Fiesta doesn't work out for me I'll try and get Stripey through an MoT and at that point we'll know whether or not I'm keeping or selling.

Don't worry, I think most of us seem to end up like this when it comes to BX's (or old Citroens in general come to that!) I know I changed my mind a few times a couple of years back when I was faced with a choice of selling the BX14TGE I owned at the time or the GS, and it also took ages to decide that I had to sell the last H van I owned!

Aye. It was always a possible outcome, but it had a lot of fun in its final years!

Sorry about the ending of this guys... my main PC imploded and life got in the way. Yes, very sadly Stripey is gone :(

You know the San Tropez that got major surgery? Stripey it turns out needed more metal than that, there was just nothing left on the back end once you started trying to find any non-rusty bits. Sad to see the car go, I really am, and I do miss it but I don't feel guilty about it.

I do still have one or two bits that I salvaged before we parted ways but really there was little on the car that was worth salvaging for selling on so it's not a huge amount of things. I've been appalling and replaced Stripey with a Mk1 Golf but if the right BX comes up at the right time in the future, I'm totally there. My experience with Stripey has not put me off BX ownership at all, far from it, the experience has cemented my love for a car I've loved since childhood. The enthusiasm here might have helped a bit too ;)

Replacing a diesel BX estate with a Golf? What a ridiculous idea! Oh, hold on...

Like you, I suspect another BX will be along at some point.
