1.9 carb petrol should be fine with no real performance loss. Also 1.9d will be pretty close match ratio wise.

What's wrong with it then Jay? You could always swap the innards over, it's not hard at all. I have loads of bits lying about, all td ratios though, but other bits are common.
Shame you live so far away. I'll look up on cit net later today for you

Really? I'm surprised by that! Would have thought the final drive would be much taller in a diesel.

According to the brochure for 1.9D theres about 1.2 mph different per 1000rpm (in favour of the diesel) in 5th so not really... (petrol is 21.2 versus 22.4 for the non turbo diesel)

The 1.7D box has the same 5th ratio as a 1.6 petrol though so if you can find a 17TGD box it should be a good replacement.

A turbo D is much taller at 25.9mph.

So how about you buy my complete BX !

Yes it was/is advertised here and on Ebay and technically sold, except the winner turned out to be playing games and had no intention of completing....

So I shall reiterate : a 1.7 diesel that was converted from a 1.6 petrol. (the ratios seem a tad low for the diesel) Taxed and tested till November, drive away £150. In Norfolk. Red shed.

The alternator has just failed but I'm still driving (short distances..)

It is getting ever closer to the scrapyard, but keeps going.

I tried offering a second chance type thing and got no response. Also as no one on here seems to want it, and I do not wish to break it (too many other things taking precedence..) and the shell is shot, but it does drive pleasantly, like them all I suppose.

Let me know if you cant find one, as I have broken a couple of 1600 BX cars, but it will take me a while to find the g/boxes. If your still in Basingstoke, I am not far from you (Newbury)
