Mk 1s are quite, if not very cool. I dearly wish I had my dads mk 1 Sphinx Gold 19RD B148UYD but there you go,my sister traded it in for a fooking Mondeo.

Re: Pigeon Restoration
The Morris?
I've put more effort into this car than any other, the steering I can handle, but the smokey emissions I'm putting down to poor compression which is from the piece of crap I bought as an excuse for a cylinder head and more fool me for not paying close enough attention to the valves/seats.

I dont actually own a VW, its a company car.
The brakes on the Morris have been a right ball ache, sometimes they work, then not. Ive replaced the master cylinder, brake linings, fluid and bled it more times than soft Mick!
It has a remote servo fitted which we think is the issue, ive a friend who owns a brake flaring tool who is coming down to bypass it to see if thats the issue as its very strange the way it behaves.

Make sure the vacuum line to the inlet manifold isn't cracked or jubilee clips loose etc....
If you are going to keep the car long term, the Morris marina brake discs are a worthwhile conversion.

The servo kit is new, but i fitted a new vac pipe etc just to make sure, it seems to be letting air into the system. Ive bought a brake light switch and flexi's too.
My mate has the same car with the original drum set up and for my style of driving and its 48bhp they do the job fine (when they work properly that is).

I'm sure your mate will sort you out but what do you mean by letting air into the system?Tim Leech wrote:BX Bandit wrote:Make sure the vacuum line to the inlet manifold isn't cracked or jubilee clips loose etc....

The servo needs a 'vacuum', fed by the tube from the servo to the inlet manifold. It needs to be air tight otherwise it won't pull a vacuum and you'll lose the effect of the servo.

Re: Pigeon Restoration
The servo seems to working ok, but also seems to be letting air into the brake lines themselves.

Re: Pigeon Restoration
Servos usually are sealed around the main body by a big o-ring. They have been known to suck in air past them.

Were going to isolate it and see if it makes a difference, if not I will reconnect it and start changing wheel cylinders!
