I'd put a K&N air filter on it as well mate. When I had my 407 with the same engine, it made a world of difference to the performance. On a long run, expect around 55 mpg.

My experimenting with the Picasso on the dyno suggests those filters are snake oil. Remap on the other hand....

Cheers for the positive noises about the C5 :D It's come into its own already today, i took a load of stuff to the tip & i didn't even need to fold the seats down, very impressed :P

Luckily for me, the C5 uses the exact same K&N filter as the BX does, so guess whats going to be swapped over soon ;)

I can't vouch for performance, but for eco friendliness, the K&N wins everytime & saves money over the long term. Yes a re-map would be nice, i don't suppose you do those Kitch? I've found this place, but have no idea if its any good, seems good value though :D http://www.hdi-tuning.co.uk/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We'll see what the economy figures are like, tbh if i can do mid 40's i'll be pleased, it is quite a bit heavier & larger than the BX, very smooth performance though.

I'll be sad to see my Avatar change, however, once i'm driving the silver dream machine & i can take a nice piccy, then it'll get updated :D

Do you still have the BX?
I know someone that might want it, I will have to speak to him.
Otherwise I could be doing with a few parts myself before it goes. Where abouts in Derbyshire are you?

Congratulations on buying the new car. Even though it isn't a BX.
The older C5's looked somewhat better than the butt ugly newer ones! Just hope its reliable for you. I have a Xsara that keeps throwing all sorts of problems at me. I might have to hit the technical pages regarding some of them, & before that I had a Peugeot 206. Worst car I've ever had!

Hi David,

i'm nr to Chesterfield, its Clay Cross & yes i still have the BX, not had time to do anything with it yet. It will be going soonish when i find the bleedin time to start removing a few bits from it.

I must admit to being a bit naive about scrapping a car, do i just phone the scrappers up & then come & collect it? & does it have to be able to move on its wheels in order for them to collect? How much can i dismantle it before it would stop a scrapper wanting it in the 1st place?

Matt, they should take anything, if you can find someone with a 'Hi-Ab' type truck, they can just pick up the shell (If that's all whats left) ?

This is what was left of my Black 1.7TGD before it was taken by the scrap-man, note that I even managed to recover the front struts (After it was winched up onto the flat-bed) if they/I had more time I would have jacked up the shell on the flat-bed and then dropped off the subframe too so as to recover the rear cylinder/struts too !

I did try to remove just the rear-struts (a few days prior the pick up) but I couldn't crack off the rear spheres (Which you need to remove first) thus preventing me to pull them out from the sub-frame locations

If you want I'll try and see if my friendly scrap-man still collects partially stripped vehicles as he moved house in the last six months and I've had no contact with him lately !

If he still does and Clay Cross hopefully may not be too far for him to collect, but may not give as much as your LOCAL-ONE ?

:)

My input last week seemed not to make it to post. Now its out of date. But

The gasket could have failed without overheating. Thus no idiot lights for warning and the water getting boiled out as steam in the exhaust eventually putting the stop sign up with coolant low. So the issue with the engine could be straight forward gasket failure.
Does not help over a poor shell. I had suggested another cheap scruffy car with engine and then to take the best to uplift a good car from the two. That is clearly post a good idea with the arrival of a C5. Hmm, not known many who had good reports on these. One returned to BX and another CX! The others swore not to have another Citroen. But these were all hands on, DIY, no garage bill types happier without computer dependency.

Hi again, Thanks for the reply.
Chesterfield isn't that far away.
I have spoken to the guy I know, He said he will have it.
He wants to know when you would be ready for it collecting. He said he could hopefully do it ether Wednesday this week or it would have to be next week some time.

From my experience of scrap yards (We have always taken in our scrap cars ourselves) they will accept anything metal, So it can be a shell, on its roof with some washing machines in it, & they will accept it. Although ones that collect it from you might be more picky.

If I get to see it, I might pull the head off & have a look to resolve any speculation on what's broken :)

http://www.hdi-tuning.co.uk/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Spot on. Cheaper if you download/upload the files etc yourself, and also factor in the cost of dyno runs before and after (I couldn't do it without knowing what difference my spending had made). But way cheaper than the usual £400 stuff.

Took my Picasso from 87bhp (supposed to be 90 in the book) to 119bhp. Torque from 150lbft (bang on standard) to 210lbft @ 2200rpm. Economy didn't suffer - in fact in the summer it's better than it used to be. Engine runs a bit smoother too, though the air flow meter condition/spec can dramatically affect the way the car puts the power down.

Probably have your C5 on around 150bhp/260lb ft IIRC. He's knowledgable on HDI tuning (good name for his company, considering), just bung him an email.
