Thanks for the reply.

It definitely isn't the hand brake sticking, as the car would roll back. Some days I park it against a brick & don't bother putting it on anyway (as I did on the 17th). lazy I know, but it stops it sticking if I don't use it for a few days, Although this car never has (unlike the Peugeot I used to have).

The fault is definitely engine related. Just a question of what.
I forgot to mention; I had the car plugged in to a diagnostic machine about 3 weeks ago & all it said was "poor signal from oil temp sensor - stored". Otherwise it didn't say anything. I will try to get it checked again at some point. Although this also had the mechanic confused as he said he couldn't see any reason this would cause trouble.

Would the oil temp sensor cause any trouble? I don't remember this engine actually having one though, If it does where will it be?

Thanks again for the continued help.

are you registered on the FCF ( french car forum ) sister forum to this one,

what year is this car, if a later one it may well be multiplex, in which case the oil temp sensor matbe could cause faults,
as each ECU in the car talk to each other

also what type of diagnostic analyser was plugged up it, the best type is a DIS-LEXIA

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not registered on there, just here (hence why I mentioned it on here).

It is a 2004 model, So Where would the oil temperature sensor be? I don't remember seeing one.

I haven't got a clue what sort of reader it was, Apart from it did many cars.

Sorry for the useless vague description.

Thanks again for any help.

a LEXIA is a dealers analyser, and only does citroens,

i call mine a DIS-LEXIA which is a clone of the dealers analyser,

over on the FCF we have a map indicating were members owning LEXIA's are located

Just remembered I made this thread so just another update.

I believe it has finally been fixed!.

The car was taken for a 100 mile drive 3 weeks ago & it used nearly £30.00 in fuel! So I had yet another mechanic look at it. It had him & 2 of his colleagues clueless. The machine they had on it said nothing was wrong with it. When the boss came in, He said he was 90% sure it would be a lambda sensor or the cat, He just said replace both sensors & clean the cat out, then come back if it doesn't work.

I removed the cat & had it cleaned out, although they said it wasn't too bad.
I got 2 lambda sensors & replaced both. While it had the sensors & cat off I started the car just to see what it would do & it did start & the engine light didn't come on.

After it was reassembled the car started & the revs were stable & low, it didn't jump to 2000 as it has been doing.

I will have to watch the fuel consumption, but so far it hasn't tried stalling, it has more power & doesn't hesitate. :)

So you see, the forum members were not wide of the mark! Suggesting the Cat and lambda sensors. Good to know you got it sorted. Sounds like the 'boss' of that garage unit knows the 'ways' of these things, and has a real world 'feel'. It's not just Citroen/Pug engines either so bear that in mind.
