So it looks like its worth its bits. The engine one way, the van the other. Otherwise get to it and present it as something whole that might make sense. The Express Egg van from West Ireland. 'Only our eggs are fresh as the cluck that just laid it, thanks to Citroen suspension'. Note, keep stock of old eggs to bung at other ponces and the Old Bill at times of stress. Or 'Poufes Perfect Ouefs' might be humorous modern libertarian option for the right sort of owner, with a more slick tag line I will duck, in the circumstances of recent unpleasentness. Of course discount deliveries come by 2CV driven by hat wearing peasant, in either case.


Non buying winning bidders.

People like to bid. You hear them at sales - say Ferrari Dino - 'It started at £30k and I did not get a bid in. Bah humbug (or similar)'. The car sells for the expected 3 figure sum. Next lot - say Maclaren owned by Schuie - 'I got a bid on that one but it sold for a quarter of a million'. Hmm, you were the guy that started the bidding at £50k just before Mr Wall popped his head round the door. The subsequent story 'I nearly bought Shuie's Mclaren, but got outbid' can now be wheeled out when the occasion arises. You have met them. The Gonners. Gonna do this, gonna do that, but do nothing. All car events have them.
Clearly on ebay you can win and abscond so the tale becomes 'I won the bid on a BX but decided it was not really what I wanted'. So there is one answer. Tall tales for folk who actually probably cannot afford anything and have rather shit lives. Or worse they are dominated by their wives and live a damp decayed shed of a life. Probably like fishing.

People multiple bid as there a 3 cars they would fancy. One of the others was won, as well as yours, and it was more preferable, so up yours.

Traders will bid on cars and have a week to place them. Sometimes the expected trade does not work, and they only buy using other peoples money. Done this myself, in a way, and a most efficient way to make money, if you can pull it off.

Kids.

Medically challenged people, this includes those to stupid to be able to read a map and assume Aberdeen is near Abingdon.

Indeed its surprising so many cars actually successfully sell! That will be because the real petrol heads are still around, celebrate meeting them, as they are the worthwhile minority in a world of mannerless wastrels. Would not want to be to harsh!

With Fred, the 14 that got me on this forum in the first place and my HY (although that sale was completed off Ebay), all the sellers were actually surprised that I wasn't turning up to kick tyres, but to collect, and if necessary pay for what I'd bought. None of them were local, and the seller of the 14 in particular was amazed that I'd bought a 1 way ticket to London to collect and drive the car home.

I've said it before, but the beginning of the end for selling on Ebay was when they decided that sellers couldn't leave negative feedback.

Yes I bought it – I have been thinking about doing a 16V conversion on an estate for quite some time but this seemed even more special. On my way back from Holland I stopped in and paid a deposit and took a closer look. It seems pretty sound though the nearside sill will need some attention. I'll probably take the Webers off it – it was put on Webers simply because they did not have an ECU and loom. Mind you they do make a lovely sound. Hopefully I'll pick it up later this week or next. I am sorry I will be keeping the tow-bar.

Be interesting to see which sort of Webers they are. The tune up boys are very rude about 'Spanish' ones. Could not comment myself,. but it seems to make a difference. Quality control?
Sounds like a equitable purchase if it was close to an existing plan. It looks like it needs a little love to make the image into reality. Interesting collection of cars.

How bad is the sill? If very bad I believe you can still get new pattern ones. Check inside aswell as out by the infill panel for the rear door aperture as apparently it's an additional rust trap for the vans.

Your are quite right, the infill panel will need some repair there… I think its only the end of the sill but it might be easier to cut a repair piece from a new sill. I should be collecting it on Thursday so you'll be able to take a look at it at the Westons as I am taking it directly there.

Would like to look round it again - last time I saw it was at a 2CVGB Registers event at Huntingdon, which I'd turned up to with a Wartburg and Q-Bike geared front driver! back then it had a GTi interior and a TD engine, which was apparently an Ireland only spec.
