There are 3 screws that hold the armrest on, should be crossheads.

Unscrew the doorpin.

Gently pull the doorcard off around its perimeter, being carefull that the trim clips dont rip out of the doorcard or break.

Tip of the day to :gently" remove the door card use a tyre lever or some over large surface area longish lever to gently prise the clips of. Otherwise you will bugger the card up.

I bought a trim clip tool especially for this job, as the cardboard doorcards can get fragile with age, especially if they have been off before or got damp.

It's always nice to take the doorcard off and see that the plastic membrane is still intact behind it.

Don't forget the screws on the door speaker. The speaker grille simply unclips using a small flat headed screwdriver.

I find electricians pliers are excellent for trim clips. Believe me, the trim clips and cardboard on a BX are a lot better than what you get on a Land Rover Discovery! As said above, three screws for the arm rest, but two behind the speaker grille, and one below the mirror. Once you've freed the trim clips, you need to lift the card up to unhook it from the window frame. Then you'll need to disconnect the wiring plugs for window/central locking and speaker.

I've never had to change just the motor. Can it be done in situ or have you got to go to the arseache of removing the whole mechanism? For the OP's sake, I hope it's the former!

1 small addition to this, the arm rest screws on some later cars are Torx head as opposed to cross head. In fact if you're working on a Mk2 I'd say that a decent Torx set is essential.

I noticed the difference whilst working on Paul's TGD last year. All the screws on my 1989 valver are cross head, but on Paul's later TGD they're Torx.

My 1988 RD is still on screws. 1991 TGD was Torx.

once the door card is prized away around the sides and bottom edges you need to raise it upwards to release it from the door mirror clip which it hooks over and will break off if you just try to prize it outwards.
