Re: Demag's TGS Auto
New petrol pump.
Sump plug. I took a pic to see if it was a square hole.
Oh dear mayonnaise. Note the dry carb!
Atf sump plug. Someone's been here before with a big chisel!
The stain is WD40 I sprayed on.
Does anyone know what this cable and multiplug is for?
And this one?
Good day. It stayed dry but cold. I finally got the oil and filter changed, fitted a new petrol pump and got 1.5 litres of atf changed.
Ah changed the plugs as well.

What baffles me is that they put the mangled plug back in! Unless they tried and just gave up I suppose.demag wrote:Someone's been here before with a big chisel!

Re: Demag's TGS Auto
I don't think they got it out it was solid. I undid the big compression fitting on the filler tube and drained it from there. Simples!

Re: Demag's TGS Auto
I forgot to say I went for a test drive afterwards. The gearbox showed a definite improvement after a mile or so. Before the fluid change the gears were all hanging on and not wanting to up change. I noticed the 1-2 change after a while became very smooth and quicker and then 2-3 started to improve as well. I only did about 5 miles anyway so it's going to take time. When I got back and dipped the box the fluid was still that strange yellow/brown colour. I think it's going to take a lot of changes to improve it. It almost looked like engine oil when I was draining it! And I really need to get the cambelt done before long.

Re: Demag's TGS Auto
Aren't there two drain plugs on these boxes... maybe the one further back will be easier to undo!

Re: Demag's TGS Auto
Yes there are two but I'm not quite sure where the other one is. The filler tube nut was easy to undo though. No play today as had other stuff to do but might have a go at draining some more tomorrow.

Re: Demag's TGS Auto
Drained another 1.5 litres today and topped up with fresh. The atf looks a lot cleaner although it's still not red. Haynes said total capacity is 6 litres so there's still some way to go yet. I'll have to get some more atf from Gsf.

Re: Demag's TGS Auto
I've not had much time this week but yesterday decided to have a look at the ticking (non working) speedo. It's a laugh a minute getting that dash pod out. I managed to undo the two black plastic wing nuts. God knows how I'll get them back on! Any way the white plastic fitting on the end of the speedo cable that clips to the speedometer had snapped right the way round near to where it is crimped to the cable outer. I think maybe the cable has been pulled too tight at some time and put too much stress on it. I have super glued it back together I haven't got a clue if it will hold or not. I don't know whether to paste some two pack epoxy like Araldite round it to beef it up, it might be worth a try, I'll see if I get time tomorrow.

Re: Demag's TGS Auto
The plug in the top picture is for a rev counter. It connects to the green & red wires. If you follow the wire it will take you to the sensor.demag wrote: Does anyone know what this cable and multiplug is for?

The yellow plug & wire in the second picture is for the brake pad low level warning on the drivers side. The wire from that to the hub must be missing. If you connect the 2 wires together & switch the ignition on then the warning light will come on.

Re: Demag's TGS Auto
Common to see them disconnected too - not really a problem imo if you take the wheels off regularly!
Nice easy access to the Doseur there! Watch that return pipe from there they often split where they push onto the valve.. both mine have needed repair...

OK thank you both. The rev counter is working so I won't worry too much.

Re: Demag's TGS Auto
I finished beefing up the speedo cable tonight with some Araldite and put everything back together. I was surprised how easily I got the two stupid wing nuts on the back of the clocks. It seemed easier than getting them off. At the same time I adjusted the fast idle down to 1500rpm then took it for a test drive. Unfortunately still no speedo. More investigation required. I was going to do another atf change but I was fed up then!

Re: Demag's TGS Auto
Better luck tonight! I took the speedo back off and stuck a small screwdriver in the back. I tried to give it a twiddle to see if the needle would flicker but it wouldn't budge! I gently eased it backwards and forwards and it freed off and I could see the needle jumping. I clipped the cable back on and twiddled the other end of the top cable under the bonnet. After some frantic twiddling I noticed the trip meter had moved slightly so I put a few odd screws in just to hold the clocks then did another 1.5 litre atf change and went for a test run. Success! I did 7.4 miles. I also noticed the 2-3 change had improved slightly, it now changes up easier and at slightly lower revs. On the speedo it changes bang on 30mph. Hopefully as I get more atf in the box it will get better still. It's still not red but clearer than it was. It still looked like engine oil draining out. I'll keep doing regular changes till it clears up.

Re: Demag's TGS Auto
That auto box seems like a daft design where you can't easily drain out all the old ATF. Is it possible to drain it all out if the car was tipped onto its side at a certain angle? I've seen those car cradles which can rotate a car 180 degrees, would that work? If it does, all you've got to do is find someone who can tip your car.
