Very usable , I use mine everyday it may not have the acceleration of the turbo cars but in some cases it is better , with the turbo cars if you are not in the right gear at the right time the turbo drops off and the car is very flat , the n/a diesel will pull a lot better even if in a higher gear at low revs making town driving easier.( or am I just lazy?)
It shows its lack of power compared to the turbo on the motorway when overtaking needs to be planned ahead but with that said it will still sit at 80 mph all day long without any problems.

I never had any issues in everyday driving, i was using my TXD to do a 40 mile commute each day. Yes, acceleration isn't brilliant, but the n/a engine does rev really well when you need it to, but i tended to just use the torque available & tbh, unless someone was really making an effort i could easily outpace 90% of most cars every day as for some reason most are woeful in applying the throttle

I also overtook plenty of cars in the 7 years of ownership when they were dillydallying

I shall bear all these enthusiasms for N/A diesels in mind in my deliberations. The West Yorks RD is starting to look more enticing! :?

That is a really rather nice looking 19RD, started life on the Isle of Wight from the 'DL' registration number by the looks of it.

I've run both N/A & Turbos - both are very different to drive and demand different driving styles. Driven carefully, 'Rene' (turbo) equals 'Bleriot' (n/a) on fuel consumption

Mmmmm, I must say it's getting very tempting :) Especially after all the enthusiasm for N/A vs. blown diesels... and the fact that the owner of the black GTi (see earlier thread) is holding out for £1700 :?

Forgot to mention that there's an '89 turbo diesel on the C&C site, but it's much higher mileage, has ugly steel wheels and looks a bit weary... :?

I'll add my support for NA diesels. Timex has the early square port head, which means a good 6 or 7 break less than the later engine in this one, and manages modern traffic fine. You do learn to plan ahead when overtaking, especially on the motorway, but it'll cruise all day at the speed limit, and return 50mpg while doing it, and you can't say that about many 80's estates!

Steve.

Always start high and use there money first, you can always come down.

Mk1 and early Mk2 (86 on) cars are very rare, the 19RD was once a common site but they have all gone now. In fact I dont know of any other 19RD hatchback's on the forum so it makes it very rare and with that mileage even more so.

I would get it cleaned up and stick it on car and classic.
