:?: The roof shouldn't lower inside the car, it should only move within the space between the headlining and the outer roof. :?

Theoretically the glass cannot lower through the headlining. I think you need to take & post some photographs to enable us to understand the problem. :?

Good luck with your MOT.

If you mean the glass doesn't line up with the roof-line when closed and is too low, then the headlining tray is too low or isn't secured properly.
I have zero patience for your tedium.

the other possibility is the motor shut off micro switch/cam gear need setting up/adjusting,

the roof will stop at the point the micro switch shuts the motor off at

They're getting very hot on engine bay leaks these days - you just need a damp looking component under there and they'll fail it.

E-bay Seller wrote:XM 2.0 TCT with 135,000 miles. Engine & autobox is very smooth. Has normal wear & tear for its age and mileage. Has various things wrong with it. Drivers window is inop., boot lid doesn't open, heater blower doesn't work, speedo recently stopped working, wear on drivers seat. Car has just failed its MOT on just one thing - has 3 suspension leaks. More like weeps as no fluid is leaking onto road & level hasn't needed to be topped up for some time. Sold as spares or repair. Strut tops are excellent.

Off thread but pertinent to MOT, and hydraulic oil at rear of engine.

Malcom's right, too many places do not understand hydraulic Citroens. My own guess is that one of the return feeds off the front height corrector is leaking, probably perished, possibly the Squid or Little Octopus?. This part is available OK, but be aware there are 2 versions depending on the Citroen ID number, it changes around 5147(?) if I remember right. However, short term a small clip may get it through the MOT. Basically it won't weep much at all unless you have fluid returning ie the motor running and the suspension working. Then it will have very low pressure on the return side. You would know about the high pressure side!. The height corrector can also blow, but less likely.

Could be another, soft return, in the worst case the 'Octopus', but these can be done. Another dodge is to marginally shorten the tube if there is enough slack in it. It appears that the proper parts last around 15 years +. To change an Octopus is roughly 2 hours, I've done the little Octopus on mine. took about an hour, but if you know what to do, probably half that. My issue was getting the tube onto the height corrector, until I used a warming device to soften the rubber to let it slide on. Pretty tight in there, but doable. You will need a feed device (I used an electrical wire) to get the tube through the protective sheathing, and keep the lines separate, going to the corect ends.

I think that one of the jobs on Timex while I'm underneath will be to go right through the return system - The return pipes from the rear are already bodged and there's a leak from by the pressure regulator somewhere as it's left a big patch under it in the barn!
