Hello

Post by Barrett »

Hello everyone. I recently bought a BX. This one, in fact:
Image

Which I'm sure you all recognise. It's ruddy ace! Not sure how I've survived this long without a BX, but there you are. I'm officially converted now. At least I was before it went to get some new discs and pads and has been stuck in the local garage for three days while they tried (and failed) to fit the incorrect bits several times... but that's another story. It's all pointy and modern! And a bit leaky. Great stuff.

Just look at it! Phwoar
Image

Anyway, it's mainly quite tidy (working glovebox and all) but the bonnet has serious lacquer peal and the front bumper has been badly sprayed to match, which is now coming off in big chunks. If anyone could point be in the direction of a bonnet and bumper in the correct shade I'd be most grateful. Cheers!

Hi, and welcome. Can't help with the parts I'm afraid, but thought I'd say hi.

Interesting collection of cars by the way.

Welcome! If you speak to Rutter he is breaking a silver BX currently, that BX is well known on this forum previously owned by Ian Seabrook aka Dollywobbler.

Nice to see another BL fan on board

Indeed, the poor maligned Bond Equipe. Sorry cannot get exited about Allegros, they just are not as nice as the 1100 series to me. But a BX adds to your status as a supporter of underdog motoring.

Welcome :D

Looking at the other cars in your excellent collection I can see why you describe your BX as 'modern' !

I always thought having a car that was younger than me was a bit of a cop-out, but the BX is a good compromise between interesting technology, rarity, good looks (though a late facelift car is hardly the best example of this) and usability, reliability and convenience. Now I've said that I'm sure it will break in a fairly dramatic way next time I get in. Although it does still feel a little like cheating to drive this to work, I have been thinking about BXs for a while now, and this just happened to pop up for sale when I'd decided I would make the effort to go out and get one. As I know the last four or five owners I figured it was probably a good'un (or they were all involved in a conspiracy of silence in a bid to foist it on some unsuspecting idiot)
I have had the brakes sorted after a fair old kerfuffle, which cost two thirds what I paid for the car... Really want I want is a decent Ami 6 to smoke about it, so if anyone wants to buy a Bond and a Herald let me know... Otherwise all my time and money is being directed at this heap, which will be a really nice car one day...

PS - what oil does my BX drink? I have only ever had to buy straight 30 or 40 in the past and am a bit lost with these modern synthetic things...

I just run mine on the 15/40 or 15/50 mineral or semi synthetic oil for high mileage engines, seems to like it OK.

As for Ami 6's do you want a saloon or estate - the saloon has the full on looks, but the estate is quite a practical car and there seem to be loads in France from about 400 Euro upwards depending on what you want to spend - good ones are a couple of grand, with the saloons much more expensive.

Hmm, looks like Finmere Trojan Owners Club day. If so we were all up mucking about with the Hot Air Balloon or having lunch as I do not recall seeing the car there.

Nope, just a trip to the pub. The Trojan did not make it to that event because.... Well, because it's a long way to go to hang out with a bunch of Trojan owners. My friend Robin (with the balloon) mentioned talking to you in the pub about Invacars - I put two and two together, remembering vaguely the days of AUA, and figured out who you were. Didn't know you were a BX man as well, but it makes sense! Is this stalking?

You can recognise our Trojan anywhere as it's the only one currently running on proper solid tyres. Everybody else has wimped out and fitted pneumatics...
