Heater blower control
Hi,
I was replacing a heater control bulb and lost the little copper ring for the heat control rheostat. Anyone got any idea where I could get one or how to make one?
If I bridge the two arc-tracks on the PCB, the blower should blow, shouldn't it? I'll try that later.
Also, while I'm here, I might try the heater mod http://www.bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic ... 15&start=0
Does this make the blower operate as normal right until you turn it right up?
Any help much appreciated.
Ta,
Joe

Re: Heater blower control
Good luck with finding another washer, very easy things to lose.
However, if you join up the 2 brown earth wires, the blower should then work. Did this with my TXD 4 years after getting her and it worked just like that.

Re: Heater blower control
Surely joining the earth wires isn't going to make it work with out the copper contact ring that he has lost as this is what sends the feed through? I tried to make a replacement one out of a bit of fuse wire when I lost one on one of my old TGD's; it worked intermittently for a while but I ended up putting a rocker switch on in the end with all or nothing blower.Mothman wrote:Good luck with finding another washer, very easy things to lose.

Re: Heater blower control
Tricky one, the copper on the PCB is a rheostat and the copper piece in the switch is the contact/speed control. In my case the plastic of the rotating disc with copper piece 'relaxed' a bit over some 13 years so I managed to repressurise the 'spring contact' to get it working again.
If I were to redo it now, I'd either 3D a new part - because I have that as an option or weld on some nylon struts to the plastic piece to hold it horizontal ie beef up the disc to push the contact back wher it was before. You can make a new contact from Beryllium copper, do not be tempted to use Phoshor Bronze as it is nowhere near as good and will not be as reliable. I would be surprised if RS or Farnell do not sell small strips of the Beryllium copper.

Re: Heater blower control
That's correct. Might have a spare PCB knocking around so will check. If not I know I definitely have several of one type of contact - the 'dog bone' type supported by two springs. By the sounds of things you have the other type with a springy strip though?morningglory wrote:Does this make the blower operate as normal right until you turn it right up?

Re: Heater blower control
The contact ring you need will be the one shown in the bottom right of this picture I assume? (Eledasson?? type)

Re: Heater blower control
Yes, its like the one in the first picture (Eledasson??).
I've made a ring out of copper wire but its not very springy so may scratch the tracks on the PCB away. Works to de-mist me for the time-being anyway.
Tim - if you've got a spare that would be marvellous. I will pay you money or beer vouchers or something!
Thanks,
Joe

Ok Joe,
It will be the weekend before I can get to my store and take a look.

Re: Heater blower control
Thanks but don't worry about it Tim. My homemade version is working fine (better than the original actually which would occasionally drop out). It might fail in time but its OK for now!
