Found the missing oil seal :-) noticed the other bottom bush that bolts to subframe isn't looking too good either, now the bigger bush is changed this presumably
will get more work.
but there are more important things to worry about, like securing the tailgate hinges!!

Made something like this

But it didn't work! Making another tool is expensive :(

Open to any kind of new ideas
Citroën BX GTi 1993
. XU9JAZ engine, ZF 4HP14 Automatic gearbox
. Leather Seats, Air Conditioner, electric mirrors, windows and sunroof
. "16V type" Speedline Rims, "Ducktail" spoiler and rear vents
ORGA 5219 (February 22, 1991) - Made in Uruguay

Hot steamy night alone, I wait for you ? Cold brittle morning alone and I cry for you ? And when you finally call ? You cloak your moves in the shadows ???

This is assuming the old one was in correctly - the solid bits should be in line with the direction the engine wants to move, i.e. approximately horizontal.
Hang on a minute.... I thought the solid bits should be vertical, leaving the non-solid bits to allow a bit of back and forth movement, but not too much. I thought if you put the solid bits so they resisted all fore and aft movement you'd get more vibration. Are you telling me I've got it wrong and need to press the two spares I've got back out and press them back in again at 90 degrees....? : :?

Can you still get the small bush, thought it wasn't available now?

The bracket that links to the subframe? The whole thing might not be available but the bush itself isn't too hard to track down. It's the same as for lots of other cits and pugs. I've got the dimensions/references written down somewhere, but naturally I can't find them at the minute...

I'm afraid so :-( You're not the only one to think this logical though, as the garage which swapped one for me in 2008 put the new one back with the solid bits vertical. (And charged me £25 for the privilege - my own fault for assuming they'd do it for beer money). Afterwards I had a low frequency vibration (maybe a few Hertz) under load, accompanied by waggling of the gearstick.

As I'd changed the driveshaft at the same time for a second-hand one, that was my first suspect but it was only when someone suggested to check the orientation of the bush that I wondered if that could be the problem. So I popped a new one in with the solid parts horizontal, and all was well again. I suppose that I could have some other problem which is now masked by putting the bush in this way, but it seems very unlikely!

I think I have the whole casting from a low mileage car (so likely original) somewhere, so I could check that for more confirmation perhaps.

the solid bits are indeed vertical, or should be.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

LOL

This bush is really becoming a battlefield for me!

About its direction, i thought something like this, putting in a slightly angled position:

But i think the priority of this bush is countering the rotational force.

Reading again, i'm thinking about the movement that the bush housing makes when the engine rotates...
If its front rotates up, the bottom part rotates down, so it could be the opposite angle that i drew

That's pretty much the process I went through, then found alternative listings for the bush once I had a basic part number (1809 22 as you say). I think I ended up with QH bushes (part no. EM2007) from MicksGarage.com - about £2.50 each I think.
In fact (has a quick look on the interwebs....) it's this one:
