Put a socket on the end of the crank bolt and try rotating the engine by hand. If access is shite, stick it in 4th, pull the top cambelt cover off and trying pushing it. If it's seized, the cam pulley won't turn and the car won't move, as opposed to being reluctant to move.

I'd been trying that, because I can see the ring gear, but like a moron I'd been doing it in reverse or first. Tried fifth for more leverage and ping! Ring gear freed. Something was seized. Turned the key and it started on the second go :)

Aargh, FFS, why does this forum keep kicking me out? Just lost a really detailed post about this car. Basically it runs and drives but it's too much work for me to put back on the road and I need some panels for my silver 16v.

I'm keeping the doors, wings, tailgate, fuel filler cap, ignition barrel, probably the bonnet, battery, stereo, rear wheels, roof panel, horn, sun visors and LHM tank.

Everything else is available and will be scrapped at some point, so be quick if there's anything you want.

Stinkwheel has dibs on the engine, box and front spheres if he wants them.

what's the underside of the shell like mate? IE, some usable bits, or full of holes?

I haven't looked that closely to be honest but I will be able to later on today. In general the shell isn't bad at all, in fact even the front inner arches aren't as bad as I thought. What bits are you after?

A handfull of LHM pipes off the front would be handy, with the clips to the rear of the crossmember. At the moment I know the regulator to safety valve thingy on the crossmember has split on my 14E. I was going to see if the one off bthe scrap TZD would fit, but....
The whole of that rear set of LHM pipes has been clouted and there might be further issues. Could be a flare tool needed to stitch in some short pipe repairs on the longer ones fitted to my car....
Near enough to take a run over. I am happy to take them off, if the car is up in the air (Or am I getting confused with Ashton Park hot air balloon day).
I am sure there are other smaller things I can use. Should this occur I can transport parts into the centre south, if it helps folk further away. I hope if so I do not fall ill. This happened three times now. Agree to do a trade, bang, illness.

Thread Bear - I haven't drained the LHM yet so I'd need to do that, but provisionally that all sounds fine and you're welcome to any pipes that you want, first come first served really. I was going to get it up on some blocks or something today, but I have realised that I've left my low profile jacks and axle stands in my 16v which has just gone to storage.

Doc, you're not far away IIRC - feel free to pop round and have a look. PM me for my contact details if you want.

I just need to sort out how it will be scrapped, as I've only used services that take complete cars before. If anyone can advise on this I'd be most grateful. At the moment the car is mobile, so I need to make sure I have an exit strategy before I make it immobile by removing the wheels/hydraulics/engine.

I'm sometimes just a few hundred yards away!
I REALLY need a decent pair of rear chassis legs and subframe mounts.
I'm kinda halfway through fabricating up new ones from 2MM plate, but if I could find a set in good nick it would save time and look proper.. If it was for my car I wouldn't much care, but it's for Dads, so it has to be perfect.

I'll drop you a PM mate, ta.

Holy thread revival!

Did this car actually get scrapped?

Cheers

Sadly that doesn't mean a lot.
