Changed fuel filter - won't start

Feel a bit dumb posting this but anyway- I'm not the most mechanically experienced.

I've just changed the fuel filter on my 1.8TZD and now it won't start. If I keep cranking it, will it eventually pull fuel through and start?

Any help much appreciated

You need to prime the fuel filter & diesel pump by either pressing the plunger on top of the fuel canister if you're car has one of those fitted, or on the left hand side there should be a rubber bulb, squeeze this until it starts to get hard to squeeze. The car should then start with very little issue

As Mulley says it needs priming, the bosch pump has a inline priming bulb where the lucas has a rubber plunger on top of the fuel filter housing.

You will know when it primed as the bulb will go hard or the plunger gets harder to push.

It shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

My lucas pump'd tzd turbo has the priming bulb, no plunger on the fuel filter housing, there are 2 varieties i believe depending upon what citroen decided to fit. All the 1.9 n/a engines have bosch pumps & only come with the priming bulb?

My F-reg NA had a Bosch pump, but a filter mounted primer!

If you've primed the system as suggested and your still having problems then you might have an air leak into the fuel lines. If this is the case that air will be drawn in after a short stop and you'll have to prime it all over. So recheck your fuel filter assembly (engine or remote mounted) and make sure you haven't damaged the seals (or left the drain off slightly open).

I used to have all kinds of problems when the leak back pipes began to fail, so it might be worth having a look at them for cracks and poor connections.
