Nicely done. That looks impressive. Your paint code is ETM, the large letters on the inner wing under the blue (alarm?) box near where you've painted. It is Gris Axinite, the same as mine. I quite like it, silver grey with a hint of beige/bronze. I never realized what a popular colour it was.

Thanks for the info Dave, yes I really like the colour (what is left of it). That will help when I get some made up for where I will be removing paint/rust from the door shuts when I get to them.
Next is the rear spheres, height corrector and rear arm bushes - booked in for next week as I have leave and access to a ramp. I will make sure there is a spare car so I can run around getting those additional new bits you didn't realise you needed/ or snapped getting them off - wish me luck!

Re: The Tatty Bus 1990 TZD Preservation not Cure
Ok, so Easter was a real treat for the Tatty Bus - with pictures.
The work carried out over Easter was;
1. Replace rear arm bearings
2. Refurbish rear arms
3. Rust cure/preserve boot floor and rear axle assembly
4. Reposition exhaust to stop it banging on bumper
5. Wax all suspension pipes
6. Fit replacement rear height corrector
It all went reasonably well with the exception of getting the anti-roll bar brackets back on (what an arse that was!), I have on my fairly extensive survey of the bus only found one area which will require a welder (although I haven't taken the bumpers off yet).

Indeed there are a few interesting motors at the workshop - unfortunately only two classics for me - although my full time job (which I am meant to be doing now!) rather gets in the way of having any more - and if I stopped doing that I would have no money for toys - life is such a dilemma.citsncycles wrote:Wow, that's a busy weekend you had there - well done!

The SM is very sexy!

Re: The Tatty Bus 1990 TZD Preservation not Cure
So I've not posted for a while as the 2CV has been getting some serious attention ready for the paint shop - she is now in and will be away for a few weeks so back to the BX. I need to rebuild my original height corrector as the new one leaks worse than the old one and Devon is currently being dyed green with my LHM.
Here is a great picture of the Tatty Bus towing the 2CV to the paint shop -

Re: The Tatty Bus 1990 TZD Preservation not Cure
So the preservation of the Tatty Bus has continued - delays due to phase 3 restoration of my 2cv (which is pretty much concourse now), moving towns, buying a house and dealing with a break up kind of put things on hold. I'm back into saving my car now.
Between now and the last post I have;
Replaced both front strut return with genuine Citroen units (as recommended here)
Replaced the fuel filter with an inline one (temporary repair - as she stopped running properly and kept cutting out due to an air leak on the fuel filter assembly)
MOT - advisory on discs/pads.
So last weekend I set about fixing a few issues, this is what I did;
1. Fitted 4 new suspension spheres (the ride now is truly amazing - it had become a little bouncy on the front)
2. Re-fitted exhaust - (now it doesn't rattle on the bumper )
3. Put her up on a ramp and local rust treated all areas on outer sills and floor pans (it is amazingly rust free for it's age - amazing)
4. Cleaned and adjusted windscreen wiper mechanism
5. Rubbed back, rust treated and re-sprayed top of sills (locally) where there was the start of rust coming through
6. Fine tuned parcel shelf (now it doesn't fall into the boot when you open it)
Jobs to do next;
Oil and filter change
Restore the replacement alloys and get tires fitted (BX GTi alloys - I'm not sure what size tyre though - I think 185/70/14?
Source and replace fuel filter assembly with an original unit
Both bumpers off and rust treat and preserve what is below.
Try to stop the return pipe on the rear height corrector seeping
Discs/pads all round
Engine coolant flush and replacement.
Long term jobs - once all the mechanicals are perfect I think I might put my hand in my pocket and have the paint work re-done - although I do quite like the rat look.
