Work booked for Wednesday, MOT Thursday. Exciting chaps!

Here she is, all clean. Although she could do with a polish and I will need to get some plastic trim stuff on her too - but mechanicals first! Speedo bodge didn't work, but I believe that isn't an MOT concern. Also realised today that the recently adhered opera window isn't watertight, I may have to get some clear silicone and just go around the edges. Leaking pipe bodge hasn't done much either, so I wacked some more sikaflex on there just for the hell of it.

I don't like these wheel trims, they'll have to be replaced at some point. You can even see my dirty little Rio in the background! Poor thing has been quite weel used and not so well looked after with me, it's due a service, and the aircon ran out of gas a week into the hot June weather we had, less than ideal. But it soldiers on.

Im lucky that friends of ours live about 3 houses down from the garages where the GT lives, so I pushed her down the road (to minimise LHM spillage everywhere) to use their electric for hoovering and water for cleaning. Unfortunately I had to drive her back to the garage as it's slightly uphill, and my shoes kept slipping on the wet road. There is a little LHM trail now!

GT dropped off, big day tomorrow! Driving it the 2 miles or so to tohe garage revealed that the front end was hard, so either the ever increasing LHM leak has caused this or if the spheres are dud I don't know. I'll find out tomorrow.

Yes, good spot Tim. I didn't want to leak all over the road outside my friends house, as I was using their leccy and water.

Are you taking it to the MoT with a big LHM leak then?

Yes, I gave the garage a list of jobs I want done, but they said they will MOT it first to see what definitely needs doing. Not heard from them today yet, so finger crossed all is going well.

I recently revived a Mini that was new to me and hadn't been taxed/SORNed for about 3 years. Didn't have any problems getting it into my name or SORNed online, but about a month later I got a snotty letter from the DVLA telling me they would be investigating the break in declaration and threatened to prosecute.

I ignored the letter and nothing came of it. Car has moved onto a new owner and he's heard nothing. So i wouldn't worry too much!

Well, picked the GT up again today, had to have her taken back tot he garage where she abodes. She would very much have failed the MOT apparently, the garage did a pre-MOT check and she more or less needs a re-pipe. The only leaking one is the one I know about, that goes from the accumulator to behind the engine, but the others, especially around the rear axle are quite rusty.

Not sure what to do next, there is a frindly garage (to the one I have just used) in Crewkerne (15 mins down the road) with an ex-citroen mechanic that has all the kit to make new pipes. However he has just moved premises and is either booked solid or not open for a month, can't quite remember what the man said. The chap that inspected the GT was great, he did a road trip in a red BX 1.9D estate last year all around europe and had lots of nice things to say about the GT, he has a GSA and Renault 4 as his toy projects round the back. He also has lots of spares etc so wil be listing some things for sale soon on here.

You'll need quite a bit of 3.5mm Cunifer - about 15 to 17 meters for a full front to rear re pipe. I bought 20 meters and have enough spare to make up the rest of the system. If you drop the rear sub frame you might as well do all 4 pipes.

Try and source the pipe first as when I had mine done, it was almost impossible to find in the UK. Eventually I got some from Bonaparte a 2CV specialist SE of Paris. Decent guy to deal with, and the pipe was good quality.
Note Pleides and others were out of stock at the time, but this may have changed.

Good luck with the GT.

I'd been putting it off as the silicone and other adhesive originally used was so well stuck onto the car that the only way I could get it off was to scrape it using a screwdriver - not ideal. The paintwork suffered for it, going through to bare metal in one or two tiny places but I made sure all these areas were well covered with new silicone adhesive - hopefully that should stop any rust forming.
Only just seen this, but can you remember what type of silicone you used? If it was acetoxy cure (smells like vinegar) it will actually cause bare steel to rust, so should be avoided on cars!

Thanks for noticing Mat, I used a black silicone (sikaflex), can't remember which number but I chose it for it's bonding capabilities to metal (painted and not) and plastic, also it's curing temperature and stability etc. It was very interesting, I remember looking at all the different types and grades.

Sikaflex isn't silicone, it's PU sealant. You don't want to use silicone ideally. PU sealant is spot on.

Booked in for pipe-work on Friday, best dust off the credit card... Also going to France for a fortnight that afternoon, so hopefully it'll be all fixed when I get back.
