8v GTi - breaking for parts/whole car
8v GTi - breaking for parts/whole car
I have neither the time, capacity or mental fortitude to do anything with this. Car is met grey.
Plenty of decent parts available. Body turned out to be seriously crusty, but various other bits;
* doors/tailgate are OK
* all electrics appear to work well (from memory, even the sunroof works)
* interior is OK too
* engine parts are all good - ran well, apart from fuel supply problem (hole in tank) so starter, alternator etc should be good. Engine has about 170k on it.
* mirrors and lights all good
* full set of GTi trims, which will need repainting but I think there's the makings of a decent set there (there are 6 in total)
Will update with prices, in the meantime shout if there's anything you want.
If you want anything big (engine etc) that's fine, but you'll need to come and remove it yourself car is in Bristol.

Drivers window mech ? Or would it just be easier to have the door minus the door card ?

Paddy, this car didn't have a splitter I'm afraid.
TizzyD, I have no idea what to ask for the window mech... it would probably be easier to have the door but I think the car has to be complete when it goes for scrap (obviously it won't be complete, but a missing door would probably be noticed) - make me an offer. I assume you need the whole assembly, not just the motor?
Rutter, it is Jetronic. Again no idea what to ask. How about £60 plus postage for dizzy and cap, TB and TPS, and FPR? (feel free to advise if this is too much/too cheap)
Other bits and some random prices...
Wing mirrors, £10 each plus postage
8v GTi steering wheel, £20? Badge is 5/10, rest of the wheel is good.
6 x GTi trims (no fixing rings, unless I can salvage any of them) - £25 posted
All open to offers, will take photos of things if there is interest.

Re: 8v GTi - breaking for parts/whole car
Yeah its only the window mech I need, the motor on my one works but I think its stripped the teeth off the top half of the mech as window only goes up and down on the lower half of the window and then makes a horrible sound and i have to pull it up the rest of the way
I think its this bit which is buggered

I doubt the scrap value will be affected by a missing door.

Re: 8v GTi - breaking for parts/whole car
I'd be interested in the front bumper, maybe both. I have a spare rear but it will need painting. I'm assuming it is Platinum grey? Does it not have rear electric windows too?
Re: 8v GTi - breaking for parts/whole car
Bumpers are not mint but not full of gouges either... they are standard grey plastic though, not body coloured.
I will check out the paint code and post it up tomorrow.
I think it does have rear electric windows.

Re: 8v GTi - breaking for parts/whole car
These are minor bits but was after the rubber hole plugs that are in various places under the car, approx 35mm diameter holes, i'm missing a few but reaqlly need one to fill under the rear floorpan, Also would be nice if you have a passenger front mud flap and any of the little plastic mushroom things that keep the boot trim in place?
I will actually be passing Bristol on the way to Cornwall this weekend so could come by either Friday night or Sunday evening?

Re: 8v GTi - breaking for parts/whole car
Hi, not sure if you got my PM, I'm looking for the heater contol panel that sit's behind the three knobs that Merlin is after. I don't need the knobs or the black plastic fascia, just the white bit behind as a control cable retaining bracket has been broken off mine.
