Another visit today to Alan Goodyear "rust in peace" with Sandre and paul, for the past two years we have been talking about the grey Athena that's been sat for 10 years and how it looks good even though it's sat unused for a decade and also that it's identical to Pauls first BX which was sadly written off in 2000 and is much missed.

Today when we arrived the bonnet was up and the drivers door unlocked...it seems Mr Handley had mentioned our interest to alan.

Amazingly after alan connected a charged battery and some fresh petrol it started, after 10 years! Unfortunately it wouldn't rise...but I had brought 4 litres of lhm with me which I poured into the tank and up she went!!

So after a little negotiating it's ours! Barry from
Bourne will be collecting soon and checking it over to see if it's a viable project.

There's a small hole in the boot floor and one of the inner wings is on its way, but the A-post and door shuts are fine plus it's runs well and it complete and of course it came from the same garage as our new TGD and Xantia.

Excited!

If you look in rust in peace it's there and hasn't changed much

I just hope it's not too rotten!

I like Metros! Proper ones, not R100s though.

Yes this is a 84 A 1.3 VDP DONE 11450 miles! Affectionately known as Hyacinth, as its trying to be something its not, with its wood and leather (steering wheel), but its one of the first with silly Metric Wheels so will look for some MG pepper pots.

Its an itch I want to scratch, had one in the early 90s, went everywhere in it, blew it up, repaired it, re-shelled it and then bought my first BX......

I did try and buy a Marina (yes I know) as I had a few of those but they have all had Pianos drooped on them (in fact a concours one had that done to it recently by the 3 stooges even though they aren't working for Top Gear), apparently the film crew who purchased it said it was for a TV programme and as the seller knew TG had finished he thought he was safe,,,

Anyway its being delivered this week

I helped a friend out with a 1.0 A-reg Metro when he was 16 and I was 17. Drove it from one side of Eastleigh to the other, with leaky exhaust manifold and a flat tyre (he went Pepperpots too, and they were metric also, so go steady) along with some MG Metro seats. I had my BX 14RE at the time, which was better in every conceivable way, except fun. The Metro was ALOT of fun! Had the early knee-capper dash too.

Going to NEC in a couple of weeks, hope to pour over some there.

Quite agree Kitch, they are very old fashioned, 4 gears, manual choke, etc and that gearbox whine, but that's all part of the charisma! The Visa was a better car in every way but have never appealed to me.

Arriving Thursday late, photos to follow!

Is it me or is this forum now pretty much redundant? I know Facebook is busy but it's a shame it was once a bustling place and now it's deathy quiet.
