Intermittent rev counter
I suspect the pick up or the wiring but does the head unit itself give trouble? Seemed to go on/off when hitting a bump.

The TZD? My vote goes to the pickup: wires almost broken off or cut from the connector over gearbox. Or just corroded connectors..
BX 4x4 estate, several BX Van's and some more normal estates in Finland.

Wires going brittle and breaking, unplug it from the connector and test it with ohms meter.
They think it's all over, it is now!
