rear hub nut and cover

Post by Richb »

Been a while since ive been on and I cant see any stupid questions in the top few topics so....

Im refurbing the rear arems and have done the arm bearings. I have new rear wheel bearings and this is where I am a bit stuck.

Question 1, are the hub nut and covers the same as any other model, ie pug 405? Ive looked on evil bay and cant see them for a bx, Im sure citroen will have them but they've had enough money recently on the modern cars! I have 3 skf bearing kits and 2 have no nuts and all 3 are missing new covers.

Question 2. Is there something that goes before the hub on the stub axle? I can see rusty remains of something, but what I dont know, could be the brake shield, I have replacements to fit for those but just wondered if there was a seperate cover or guard.

Thanks

Yes there is a mudguard for the sealing as seen on the far left:

They tend not to come with the bearing any more and I haven't found any source for those, despite for at least two different part numbers. They haven't been available from Citroen dealers in several years here.

Right. Thankyou fir the info. I can have them made if I have a sample. I guess this explains the bearing failure. Will try dealer to see if they have one in their old parts bin. Or if anyone has one to loan me......

Hi cliff. I've found a couple in the box of spares I got with the car.

On a different matter part no 3726.14 which is the rusty bit that's no good and the bearings shoulder up to is unavailable. From what I've read the bearings don't last long without them as they don't run true. I have found someone who can manufacture them. But min order is 50. Would I be able to sell the remainder on. I've looked at both cars and they seem.poor on both. They are likely to be around £2-3 each.

From memory the rear wheel bearing is the same as Peugeot 305, not 405. Doing a search by part number for the washer/shield thing, this company claims to have them for a euro each....

I was tempted to order a dozen or so just to see whether they actually have them. I'll be needing some too....

It appears Quinton Hazell made a version of the washer: part number QWB2265, also Peugeot part number 95559360. Fits C15 and Xantia as well, I think.

ah keV. The bits I saw listed it as 405. Can't trust the internet.

I'm game to order them. There's also a Dutch co saying they have them to order as well.

If I had them made its on an automated lathe. The 50 is because that can't stop it before then.

Went through the order process to find out how much the postage was - about 16 euros to UK. Which obviously more than doubles the cost of the bits themselves. If you get some made or order some I'll take half a dozen off you.
If you look through the archives, you'll fine our Finnish correspondent has provided a drawing and measurements....

I'm not sure if the suspension arm will start rottening fast if it's in contact with stainless?

Shouldnt do. They use stainless mounts for brake pads on cast and no problem with corrosion there. If it was aluminium i wouldnt do it. Stainless on steel is regarded as safe with cast. You pften use stainless fasteners in it.

If they are like a quid a peace I could take 20 pieces easily. I think they fit also older Xantias, maybe the markets are wider? :)
