Not BX, but....

Post by Dominic »

Anyone know anything about the infernal electronics on Hdi 110's? My 02 Picasso travels precisely 11.2 miles then goes into limp mode. Diagnostic says Clutch switch high (so I've disconnected it), Throttle position sensor circuits A&B (So I've replaced it albeit with a breakers yard one) and System Voltage (Not sure what that means). its getting progressively worse, and since my daily commute is 40 miles each way, increasingly traumatic. The only way I can keep it going is by feathering the throttle and the clutch. Any ideas gratefuly received

Without being able to pinpoint an exact fault, system voltage low would suggest the main power circuit, so check the battery for min 12.5+ volts holding at rest (slow climbing is also ok but indicates battery is not fully charged) and altenator output with engine running (all ancillaries off), which should be steady at min 13.4v + above 1200rpm (fluctuations in altenator voltage will normally be regulator/rectifier).
Modern electronic systems are incredibly sensitive to voltage changes and a tired battery or altenator will cause the ecu's the report a non existant problem and switch to limp mode or immobilisation mode. It's the first step.

Didn't do the 110 Picasso in 2002 did they?!

What diagnostics are you using?

Battery a good place to start, sounds like. Diagnostics is a cheapy Konnwei jobby, And yes, the 110 Picasso has been around since 2000! It is the 8v one, mind.

Erm, no, the 110 came out in 2004. It was a 1.6 16v. The 8v is a 2.0, and only came in 90bhp guise.

Cheapo OBDII readers are often a waste of money. Get on to FCF and find someone who's nearby with a Lexia.

When my '04 Piccaso did this, it turned out to be air flow meter, even though it showed nothing on diagnostics. Not saying it's the same for you, but that's what it was on mine.

Not if it's an 02 it's not.
