bx 17 tgd

Post by arlever »

hello everyone.
i have started the work on my bx and removed the radiator to flush the cooling system to find it was half full of oil.
the car last time it ran was extremely sluggish as well.
Can any one tell me if this may indicate a failed head gasket or a cracked head / block, or perhaps something else.
general forums seem to go off on all sorts of tangents whilst not getting to a conclusion.
engine is coming out next weekend anyway for a full inspection, just wondered if anyone had experienced this before
thanks in advance,
andy.

If you are lucky it will just be the head gasket. The head may be cracked as well of course so get it pressure checked.

This tangent will suggest that a good engine inspection is the only way to find out.

Does this engine type have an oil cooler? The larger PSA engines often have an oil to water heat exchanger at the base of the oil filter which can fail, pumping oil into the cooling system.

Thanks guys.
no oil cooler on this engine so can discount that.
engine out for good inspection next week and will do cambelt, clutch and everything else.
i see rutter had a head and a rad for a 17 turbo so will be in touch with him if required.
thanks again

apologies to xantia_v6 it does indeed have the oil cooler behind the oil filter although this has tested out ok. thanks though. always learning.
