Clock with its own sense of time

Post by vulgalour »

I don't have a digital clock in my BX, I've got an analogue one instead. Thing is, it has its own approach to time keeping. Sometimes it runs perfectly normally, other times much too fast, other times far too slow. It never stops, it just never runs at the same rate. I have no idea what could be wrong with it or how to fix it, do you?

Quite normal don't think I've had one that kept good time,, I'm sure you could buy a 12v quartz motor and retro fit.

The time it keeps is magnificently wrong whatever time of day it actually is. Fitting a replacement motor is a good idea though, not thought about that, might mean I have a clock that's actually quiet then too.

I have a vague memory that I spoke to Speedycables about repairing mine and they said they could probably do it. I may have just imagined this though!

After having the dashboard in and out a couple of times, the clock is somewhat quieter now and appears to be keeping time properly so I'm not really sure what's going on with it.

I did notice that the binnacle that's fitted is slightly different to the original. A previous owner replaced the binnacle because the original one had a burnt PCB. The connectors for the clock and the casting of the whole back of the original binnacle is different. There's other differences too, like the complete lack of ABS filter on the original binnacle where the replacement has a slot for it. The replacement binnacle works perfectly fine, so it's not really a problem, just an observation.
