The knocking on the front can also be caused by drop links, bottom ball joints or wishbone bushes
Worth checking all of these as I suspect they are prob all 30 odd years old. The struts themselves can also cause a knocking noise tho less likely.

Thanks.....I will check them all.....it passed an MOT so I suspect it's probably the drop links. I don't have photos yet but I will see what I can do....and then try and fathom the system for posting on here!

No numbers in yellow but the car is pale gold - there are letters ECZczw (might not be right I am going from memory) and the link in that thread doesn't work. I am aware of how to use a search facility!

ECZ is Sable which is a pale gold as, you say. A great colour, your car must look v smart.

Here's a Sable XM and C6 for comparison:

Re: the possible heater tap being stiff, I think these used to be available from Chevronics in Hitchin; but that information might be out of date.

Once you find it (difficult! It's well in the footwell and you'll get one hand on it if you stretch) you might be able to move it to a different temperature for the winter weather if you can get your hands on it. This is a stop gap solution until you get a new tap. I exercised mine and it did get a little easier to turn the heater control panel but I couldn't get the full range of travel to get full-hot or full-cold.

It is often thought on here that Radweld being used in the system causes these to get gummed up.

Yes that looks like the colour. I'd printed off the heater tap replacement guide, school holidays are ruining my car time! Once the little buggers go back to school I will get my week day days off back again and progress will be made. The engine is a bit smokey when cold which I assume is valve stem oil seals and I am not sure the auto choke is working properly......I ca see that some models had a manual choke which would be a much better idea!

Good luck with it.

I think I had auto choke on one BX and had to read the hand book on how to start it at different temperatures. You may have read this already but to me it was a surprise as I'd only driven manual choke or fuel injection cars previously.

I've seen this car at the northern rally in 2017.

A tidy car but yes it has a set of 16v grey/silver wheels fitted to it. It should have 165/70R 14 tyres

That is the only Gold one I know off as they were mostly all grey or blue.

Yes - that's my car.....it's rust free---a few dents and at some point I will get the alloys refurbished....even thinking about getting them painted the same colour.....or is that too much?

Well.....I've ordered a new heater control panel from Ebay to replace the broken one......and I wondered - why does the blower fan knob have a cable attached to it? The controls for it are via the circuit board surely?

I am not sure what post you're talking about? I've seen the fan resistor thread and the heater tap replacement but I can't see anything that says why there is a cable as well as the electronic connections?
