Brake caliper bleed screws

Post by white exec »

See that the bleed screws are now NFP at Citroen...
front - 95 578 347
rear - 1210 06

Are these really different, FF and RR?
Is the thread the standard M8, with a 90deg tip?
Need to be prepared, in case those on the car (arriving this week) turn out to be a problem.

VIN is VF7XBXC0065XC8448.

If they are like the XM, the front and rear have a different thread length. Generic replacements are available on the internet, but again, be careful with the length.

Any info on thread and the lengths, Mike?
Would prefer to lay some in before extracting the originals.

Sorry, I can't help with BX dimensions, but I am sure that someone here can find one to measure.

Think I've found the thread details, c/o Brakes International, in Rochdale
fronts: M7 x 1 (Bremtech BBN40)
rears: M8 x 1.25 (Bremtech BBN82)
Standard 90deg tips

Missed your query as been busy sorting out my BX’s rear hubs. Anyway, the work required me to get a new rear calliper bleed nipple and I thought there may be some interest to see the differences between what I believe is standard, what Autofren have in their caliper kit (D42674C) and the nearest size I found from Bigg Red on eBay (item no. 312519357026).
The original is 29mm long (see my drawing) but the others are 35mm.
The original minimises the thread length presumably to minimise the risk of it seizing in the caliper. But the proper solution is to ditch the zinc plated steel and replace with A4 Stainless Steel or Titanium! Anyone know where you can get some?

Thanks for posting all that info. Great stuff.
Did see a good few brass bleed nipples on my search, but not any stainless steel yet.
Might have another look now I know the sizes.

After removing all the spheres, I did a system bleed, at the rear brakes.
Both nipples came undone ok - one easily and cleanly, the other needed a but of flare-spanner persuasion, and had some rust on the nipple. Wire-brushed off and re-used. My new ones from B.I. are on their way.

I had some made for me on a mate's lathe as he owed me a favour. It would be an expensive option if I had to pay for them!

I prefer to add some ceramic lubricant to the treads, no seizing after that. That is, totally unscrew the bleed screw, cover the thread with paste and reinstall.
