Dipstick length - 1.9D

Could someone confirm the correct length (underside of handle to H mark) for a 1.9D dipstick?
Am in the process of repairing/replacing the handle, and the remains is free to move about!

Thanks.

Yes, I had.
The Parts listed dipstick length is an interesting quantity. Mine (1172.93) is listed as 500mm, but where is this measured?
The one here has a mostly missing top, with only 1cm of yellow plastic (where it slots into the holder lid) remaining. 500mm from the tip comes to a NOTCH in the metal, normally buried inside an intact top . . . so normally impossible to check that quoted length.
I'll try for a new one, and make comparison with my broken one.
Who'd have thought such a simple item could be such a pain?

Alternately give it an oil change; drain all the oil and top up with the recommended amount then set your dipstick repair accordingly.

The oil change is about to be done, along with cambelt, coolant, etc etc, so will try that.

I'm rather pleased with it too!

Just finished sorting a few things out...

- spheres now fitted with Valprex, and regassed
Acc was ruptured, so replaced (ex-XM Hydractive centre sphere, set to 62bar).
Corner spheres just about had 10bar, so regassed. All genuine Citroen, and the correct ones! Time will tell...

- relays and fuses added for main and dipped beam, to reduce load on the lighting switch, and uprated wiring to the H4's.

- glow-plugs and GP relay checked out and contacts cleaned
Only 25A being taken by all four GPs, so maybe a dud or two.

- new cambelt and aux belt
Fully expected those on it to be well used (at 106k mi), but was surprised to find a recent-looking aux belt, and delving deeper, obviously newish water pump, jockeys and tensioner, all ContiTech. So just renewed the belts, and left the rest.

- gear oil changed for correct stuff; what was in there was clean enough, but very 75W-90 looking.

- new coolant and a thorough (temporary header-bottle) bleed

- new engine oil
Book says 5L for a filter change, so that's what it got. Resassuringly comes up to the H mark when the remains of the dipstick is put in to the assumed original position. Good tip, that!!

Sod of a job getting to the 8mm pegging hole for the flywheel. That nasty plastic fuel filter does no favours for access to that end of the engine, and is chokker with flexy conduits running underneath it. The hole took a bit of finding, and then got pegged with a 7mm short rod firmly attached to the end of a bendy-magnetic retriever.

Some minor bits still to sort:
- a pair of decent H4's to replace the French yellows, and some rear dust covers for the headlights
- handbrake lever needs looking at - not reliably putting out the brake light
- screenwash sprinkler in serious water-saving mode
- relay to be added for the starter solenoid, to preserve the IGN sw
- relamping of the dash - several dark spots
- and the dead tacho and dipstick handle, of course.

Needs to get matriculated on to Spanish plates: a ludicrously expensive process, involving coughing up around €1300.
Oh to be doing this in the UK instead!
Some temporary (green) plates - another €100 - allow it to get insured and driven ahead of final plating. Just as well we're not going out to eat as much as usual these days!

Well it's certainly gone to the right home, can't fault what you've done so far. Very impressive!

Just needs some valve cap covers now

I'm intrigued by this one! The look and smell of the oils can vary more by the brand than the grade. How are you deciphering this?

Yeah, but 75w80 smells pretty much the same, doesn't it? Or is my noise knackered?

Have just gone down to the garage to have a sniff...
I have some of each of these two:
- Total Traxium (Gear 8 ) 75W80 GL-4, 1-litre pack
- Total Transmission 8 gear oil 75W80 GL-4, decanted from my Citroen dealer's 200L drum
Suspect the Traxium is just a rebranding of the other one. Both to PSA spec.
Both have a only very feint smell - nothing compared to what I drained out!
