Check your spare then, it might be the original.

Car of the day. For some reason, I like that a lot. 😊
Prefer it to the Lamborghini, like Signor Gandini!

Started to do the prelims for replacing a front to rear hydraulic pipe from the HC to the priority valve. As its such a fiddly job and I like to put the replacements in all the pipe clips along the route I started wondering why am I actually doing this. I put it on my things to do list in 2016 and could not remember why.
So I had a long search to find the rusty bit and eventually discovered it just forward of the rear wheel. It was surface rust that I had covered up in 2016 with the black stuff. But it was still only surface rust not serious so I decided to inhibit the rust and underseal it again and thereby deferring it again for another 5 years unless I need to take the LH suspension arm off.
Then having taken the middle silencer off for access most of its guts spilled out when I upended it. As the front silencer has rusted away internally too I have ended up replacing the exhaust system instead of a hydraulic pipe.

Going for a long walk tomorrow and a pub lunch to get me away from my needy BX.

Big pipe, little pipe - all in a day's work! Hope the pub lunch goes well. \:D/

Surprising how durable the hydraulic lines are, unless they happen to be kept wrapped in muddy dampness (eg in subframe gaps).

I'd entirely forgotten just how basic a diesel exhaust system was on the BX - no front end box at all. Diesel exhausts tend not to rust, and so they can get forgotten about. Do find the 19D exhaust a tad "chuffy" at the back at idle . . . am used to dead silence on the XM.

A turbo quietens exhaust enormously, by smoothing out the shock-waves. Have driven our RAV4 D4D with nothing except 0.5m of downpipe attached: surprisingly quiet, except at full throttle.

Did wonder about fitting a front-end box to the 19D, to quieten things down a bit. Good idea? Any other options?

Yes Lancia made some great cars. I had a Beta for about 3 years, not one of their great ones but an enjoyable car nevertheless.
I could not beat its rust however so sold the 4 year old car for peanuts to a guy who wanted the engine.
