There is no lift pump on the BX fuel is effectively sucked out of the tank by the injector pump.
You have probably got an air leak between the tank and pump. Usual causes are the metal fuel supply pipe rusting through, it only need a tiny pin prick to stop the fuel so that you will not see any leak but the pump suction will draw in air. The fuel priming pump also perishes and fails.

There is a strainer in the tank pickup which could conceivably be bunged up if the tank is contaminated with something. This is easy to check. But I would have expected poor running as it got clogged up before the current complete failure.

Hope that helps and you get ti sorted quickly.

Yes, very helpful. Can you service the priming pump?

If it's a Purflux filter/primer (small black priming knob on top (but not angled), deep aluminium filter bowl), it also contains a pair of small non-return valves on the input side, and a small bronze micro-filter of the output side. These bits are under the input and output banjo bolts. If disassembling, make a sketch of the position of the parts, and get their orientation.

As Jaba says, the Purflux rubber priming diaphragm can split/perforate. The priming valve is available as a Purflux spare part (from good motor factors), so you don't need to replace the whole filter.

As a rough check for a blockage in the fuel line, try blowing down it (from engine end), and check whether there's bubbling in the tank.

Check the action of the priming pump/filter by disconnecting its output, and operating the primer. It should deliver squirts of non-aerated fuel.

You can use 10mm & 8mm copper pipe to replace the steel fuel lines, as they are no longer available from Citroen or £100 from Chevronics I would also recommend chenging all the rubber fuel lines up front whilst your at it. The purflux filters can be a bit temperamental esp the o ring seals so bypass it using an inline filter instead on the supply and return lines, use the squeezy pump to prime,
Your local plumbing shop should have the copper pipe for about £15. Use double wall 8mm fuel line think about 12ft does the lot, new clips jobs a gooden.
