Wanted: Heater Tap / Oil Cooler / Entire Car

Post by Josh2109 »

Hi all,

I need a few bits for my TZD - in a previous life it has had the connector for the heater tap snapped off by a garage, and the oil cooler has a hole in it so has been looped out also. If anyone has these going spare for a diesel then I'd be interested seeing as the cost of the heater tap alone from the usual places is eye watering.

Alternatively, I'd consider a whole car if there's a car going for parts within striking distance of East Sussex - I've got a trailer with a winch so it doesn't need to be a runner and I can be flexible with uplift.

Cheers,
Josh

Substantial number of BX service parts still available new on Mister Auto (although they suffered badly in UK as a result of Brexit) and Autodoc, so worth looking there as well as at breakage.

Heater taps sticking/breaking is not unheard of on bx's and also a job you only wanna do once so do it right and do it properly, if you're a contortionist or already have the dash out makes things easier, don't loose the little clip either.
The oil coolers are available as they're not specific to the bx

Cheers all - I found the heater tap issue whilst sawpping my heater matrix out, I knew these were an issue so checked it whilst I was there. I've PM'd folks back so hopefully will get one sorted soon.

RE the oil cooler, I can find loads of XUD ones online but none quite look like mine - I read somewhere that there were two types and that they aren't interchangeable?

Josh, if you can post your VIN number, we can odentify the correct current part number for the oil cooler.
This usually lists the unit's thickness (depth), which did vary across various models.
OE part number also will cross-reference to new aftermarket replacements.

I'm pretty sure when I replaced mine some years ago I used an early type cooler from a Berlingo van 1.9d but as/\ says there are 2 different length bolts , my guess is that the fatter cooler is largely for turbo engines.

The larger engines just got thicker coolers. So long as tubular bolt and cooler match, it will be ok.
Worth replacing the circular seal behind the cooler (#12 above) - mine leaked annoyingly. Still available from Citroen, and not the same (on BX) as the ring on the oil filters, unfortunately.

The steel coolers seem less prone to internal corrosion/perforation than the aluminium ones. If yours is aluminium, be scruplulous about good quality coolant all year round. (Internal perforation allows engine oil to be injected into the lower pressure cooling system - obvious if you look into the radiator/header tank, as it floats to the top. A v.nasty clean-out job... :( )

Hi Josh,
Re the oil cooler, some are not specific to PSA alone and are used on other vehicles such as Renault and Alfa.
Yours could well crop up used or maybe even new for a different car brand altogether, some solid searching may help, the part number may keep returning Citroen though.
Getting a cross reference could help open up other avenues for your search. 🤞
Prefer it to the Lamborghini, like Signor Gandini!

Interesting it has it down as aircon, it's something I'd love in the car but it's definitely not fitted.

Thanks for looking up the part number for me, I'll see if I can find a cross reference for it and see if that widens the net as those prices are pretty wild!
